Megan Massacre got her first tattoos when she was 18 years old. She started studying the art of tattooing before she had any tattoos of her own, so she gave herself these tattoos on her leg to practice her skills.

“When I was learning, I actually tattooed some of my leg,” she told KTNV. “These aren’t very good! But this is when I first started tattooing, I had to practice on myself. And if you can imagine this, my leg is up on an armrest and I’m trying to reach down here to tattoo. That’s why it’s not finished…It’s a little difficult because you need two hands to tattoo.”

She hadn’t gotten any tattoos before because she wasn’t sure what she wanted. However her boss pressured her by saying that she needed to have tattoos in order to be a tattoo artist.

The tattoo is a cheetah woman drawn in an anime style. “At the time, when I was 18, I really loved anime and I was really into video games. And I have to say 10 years later, I’m not so sure I love anime anymore.” Instead of finishing the bottom of the tattoo, she has the character coming out of an oil lamp like a genie.

Demi Lovato got a tattoo on her back from artist Bang Bang on May 14, 2013 — the release day for her fourth album Demi. The tattoo says “now I’m a warrior”, which are lyrics from the album’s closing track “Warrior.” In the song, Demi sings about how the struggles in her personal life have made her a stronger person.

“I have a song on my album called ‘Warrior’ and it’s a very, very meaningful song to me,” she told Jimmy Fallon. “It’s really heavy, the lyrics, but it’s an inspirational song as well. It’s a negative thing turned positive. I’ve been through a lot and I’m really really honest on this album. And this is a song that was really difficult for me to write, record, and now release. Selena Gomez got her fourth tattoo from artist Bang Bang in June 2014. It is Arabic writing on the right side of her back. It says “أحب نفسك أولا” which translates to “love yourself first.”

“Selena already had it written out how she wanted,” Bang Bang told E! News. “The tattoo is about 4 inches, and didn’t take too long, probably about 30-45 minutes. The longest part is laying it out. We played with it a bit laying it out, until we found the perfect spot.”

Selena Gomez’s second tattoo was a Roman Numeral on the back of her neck, which is believed to be a tribute to her mother. Tattoo artist Bang Bang explained “The tattoo was a tribute to a family member who she said means a lot to her.” The tattoo reads “LXXVI” which is the number 76. Selena’s mother Amanda “Mandy” Teefey was born in 1976.

The tattoo was done at Bang Bang’s New York City studio on September 29, 2012. He says “Selena was nervous it might have been painful, so she held her best friend’s hand the whole time. But she did a great job.”
