Ruby Rose got a tattoo of British comic book character Tank Girl on the left side of her back in February 2011. The tattoo is done in a more realistic style than most of her others and she was very impressed by artist Bang Bang’s work. “Can you believe it is possible to tattoo like this,” she tweeted.
Ruby Rose has two boxing-related tattoos on the right side of her upper back. The first part of the tattoo is a tribute to her godfather Lionel Rose, an accomplished professional boxer who was the first indigenous Australian to win a world boxing title. Lionel passed away in May 2011 at the age of 62. That same month, Ruby visited Sydney Australia tattoo artist Rhys Gordon to get a tribute piece. She got a tattoo on her right shoulder blade of a pair of boxing gloves and a laurel wreath with Lionel’s name at the bottom.
Ruby, whose birth name is Ruby Rose Lagenheim, was named after Lionel Rose but is not biologically related to him. He and her father were close friends. Back in 2012 Lionel’s family stirred up controversy by saying that they hadn’t had any relationship with Ruby since her parents’ divorce and alleging that she was using the name “Rose” to further her own career by association to Lionel. Though it’s true that Ruby didn’t have any contact with Lionel later in her life, she says that seeing him as a young girl had a major impact on her.
“I met Lionel five or six times as a young tacker and he was a huge inspiration to me,” she told the Herald Sun. “I didn’t have a dad. Those trips to Lionel’s, while very few and far between, were everything. We had a crummy life, we didn’t have any money, dad was like `how’s it going?, but Lionel had a real impact on me…He passed away as my godfather. They can’t take that away from me…I love him – and if he’s looking down on me from heaven, I know he would be proud of the things I do.”
One of the thing that Ruby did honor Lionel’s legacy was to train as an amateur boxer herself. In November 2012 she added onto the tattoo with two yellow lightning bolts and “The Thorn” which is her own boxing nickname. She entered a few amateur fights around the time that she got the tattoo, but it seems that since then she’s put her own boxing gloves to rest.
Tasia Alexis has the words “Love you mean it” inked on the right side of her back for her mother.
Wolftyla has a tattoo on her back of the Eye of Horus, an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health. In October 2016 she began the process of laser tattoo removal at Erase Spa in New York City to get rid of this tattoo. “Saying goodbye to old memories …. getting this tattoo removed today. Can’t wait to show you the end results,” she wrote in a Snapchat post. (more…)
Anissa Rodriguez has a crescent moon with a face tattooed on her right shoulder blade between her owl and triforce tattoos.
Anissa Rodriguez has the triforce symbol from the video game series The Legend of Zelda on her right shoulder blade. All of the members of Eyes Set To Kill have this symbol somewhere on their bodies. Sister Alexia Rodriguez has it on her foot.
Jahan Yousaf tattooed the words “One More Night” on her left shoulder and then later added shading and swirls connecting it to her neck tattoo. Eventually she added roses all the way around her neck which fill in the space between the tattoos on her neck and back and make it more cohesive. She has said that she can no longer count how many tattoos she has because they are all like one.
There is tattoo of writing on Yasmine Yousaf’s right shoulder blade, but it is usually covered by clothing. We are not sure what the full tattoo says, but the last word is “yourself.”
Scout Taylor-Compton has three separate quotes tattooed on her left shoulder blade. She started out with just the top two lines, which are lyrics from the Mumford & Sons song “Awake My Soul.” They say “In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die. Where you invest your love, you invest your life.”
Next she added the inspirational phrase “anyone who thinks sunshine is pure happiness / has never danced in the rain.”
The final quotation that she got tattooed is “Darlin’, forever is a long, long time / and time has a way of changin’ things” which comes from the Disney Movie The Fox and the Hound.
