Jenn Im and her friend Stephanie Villa got matching lavender tattoos on their wrists. Jenn’s tattoo is on the left wrist.
The second new piece which Iggy Azalea added to her right forearm half-sleeve in 2016 was this surrealist rose design on the back of her arm, just below the elbow. The image combines a traditional style rose tattoo with the roman numeral digits of a clock face, which spiral into the center of the flower.
Iggy hasn’t spoken about what it means to her personally, but it appears to have something to do with the ephemeral nature of time.
The numbering on the clock has a few oddities that could be symbolic, if they aren’t unintentional mistakes. The clock goes straight from one (I) to three (III) with no number two (II) in between. The number four is written as IIII rather than the correct roman numeral IV.
Chiara Ferragni has a bracelet-style tattoo on her the back of her left wrist with the message “Kiss Kill Kiss.” The tattoo, which she got from Dr Woo in May 2014, is a funny tribute to the roller coaster of emotions that love induces.
Chiara Ferragni has a cheeky tattoo of Mickey Mouse taking a selfie on the inside of her left wrist. It’s a lighthearted take on the perceived vanity of posting pictures of herself online. She loves Mickey Mouse so as soon as the idea popped into her head, she knew she had to do it! She told Glamour:
I loved the idea so much, I still can’t remember how I got that. I was in L.A. and I immediately had to call my tattoo artist to get an appointment.
Gabi DeMartino got an outline of a bow tattooed on the back of her wrist in March 2018. Her first two tattoos were both of writing so she wanted to get ornamental designs for her next few. The bow was inspired by a bracelet she has with pearl beads and a bow charm, so the tattoo is like a piece of jewelry that she wears all the time. Even though it’s not deep and meaningful she still thought about it for a long time before committing. And she loves how cute it looks!
Maren Morris got this roman numeral tattoo the back of her left arm to celebrate the success of her single “I Could Use A Love Song.” It was her first solo number one on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, having previously topped the chart with her feature on Thomas Rhett’s “Craving You.”
More importantly, “I Could Use a Love Song” was nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards. She decided that she would honor the achievement and the song during her trip to attend the Grammy Awards ceremony. “Oh, and a ICUALS tattoo is definitely happening when I’m in NYC for Grammys. #SorryDad,” she tweeted.
She showed off her fresh ink on the red carpet at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala on January 27, 2018, telling Billboard:
It’s been an amazing month. I can’t believe — It went number one, and then we’re at the Grammys this weekend….Watching it inch up the chart all week, and then they finally said it went number one and I could just exhale, finally. It was really exciting. I actually got a tattoo today to signify the number of weeks it was on the chart. So it’s 42. It’s the first number one so I want to celebrate it.
“I Could Use A Love Song” was released on March 27, 2017 as the third single for debut album Hero. The sleeper hit climbed the chart slowly after debuting at number 56. It finally hit number one on the chart dated January 20, 2018 after 42 long weeks. Maren’s tattoo says “XLII” which is the roman numeral for 42.
Maren Morris has a tattoo of a watercolor-style hummingbird on the inside of her left forearm. She loves hummingbirds, but it is symbolic of her music career as well. She explained to Country Note:
This is my first tattoo. It’s a hummingbird. My first ever guitar was a Gibson Hummingbird. And I just love them. That was when I was 18.
Based on an interview with Huffington Post, it seems like the Gibson Hummingbird was actually her third guitar. She got a cheap Ibanez acoustic guitar from her dad when she was 12, which she loaned to a neighbor and never saw again; and Martin acoustic guitar which she still has. The Gibson Hummingbird was an 18th birthday present from her parents.
Regardless, the Gibson Hummingbird is the one that’s special to her. We love that she found a creative an beautiful way to represent it with this hummingbird design rather than getting a picture of the guitar itself.
Iggy Azalea got a tattoo of a blindfolded horse on her right forearm in July 2016. Artist Sean Smith used etching lines to create the illusion of shading. A dark area of the horse’s mane covers her old number “1” tattoo, while the long and flowing mane follows the curves of her existing Venus tattoo. The was the first of a series of tattoos which she got within the span of a few months to convert this arm into a half-sleeve. The Venus tattoo stayed but she eventually covered up her old “Trust Your Struggle” tattoo.
Iggy Azalea developed a love for horseback riding during 2015. One of her new years resolutions was to learn to ride a horse well and that goal turned into a full-blown passion. She bought two horses of her own named Defender and Strictly Business (nicknamed “Bizzy”). 2015 was a hard year for her career-wise and riding helped take her mind off things. She tweeted “Horses saved my life and now I have two and it’s all good. Now I have discovered another passion.”
The blindfold on the tattoo could have a few meanings, including keeping calm in the face of danger and blind trust. The most common reason that owners put a blindfold on a horse is to keep it from becoming frightened.
