Neck Tattoos

JoJo Levesque

On the back of her neck, JoJo has her last name “Levesque” and “Live Free Or Die.” She got the name tattooed as a way of preserving it. “My father is the only boy out of his siblings, and I’m the only child of his. So after him when I get married the Levesque name will be no longer in our family. So I wanted to kind of immortalize it on myself,” she told Homorazzi.

Beneath it is “Live Free Or Die,” the state motto of New Hampshire. JoJo lived in Keene, NH for part of her childhood.

Ashley Rickards

Ashley Rickards’ first tattoo was this infinity symbol on the back of her neck. She got the tattoo in October 2013, when she was 21 years old, but she had thought about it for many years beforehand. “I’ve wanted that since I was 14,” she told PopSugar.

The specifics of the design were impulsive though. “I called my friend and I was like ‘I think I need to get a tattoo!’ So I just met him and we went to the tattoo place and there were four people in there that I didn’t know…So you look up the image and pick it out…and I literally told the strangers to pick out — because there’s a million types of ways you can do it — and I told them, I’m like ‘pick it’ and they picked it.”

Lucy Hale

Lucy Hale’s very first tattoo was a ribbon bow on the back of neck.  She got the cutesy design inked by Shamrock Social Club artist Dr. Woo before he became one of the most in-demand tattooists in Los Angeles, and she continues to be a fan of his work.

She talked about the tattoo, which was her only one at the time, in a 2012 interview with Maniac Magazine:

My most maniac moment was when I was 19 and I got my tattoo. It’s on the back of my neck. It’s a bow. Luckily I still like it. I got it after a break up and I wanted to do something rebellious, which is a kind of out of the norm for me.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock butterfly back tattoo

Leigh-Anne Pinnock has two tattoos which are both located on her back. First she got the word “Believe” on the back of her neck.

In March 2013 she added a large tattoo spanning from the center of her back onto her right shoulder blade. The design is of sheet music with a treble clef on the left side and four butterflies which get progressively larger in size from left to right.

Leigh-Anne had the design drawn up by her good friend Hannah Lisa, who is a Fine Art student at Arts University Bournemouth. “Inked again mixers.. Designed by my beautiful bestie @hannahlisab :) thanks chick i love it!” Leigh-Anne tweeted.

The tattoo seems to have been quite painful. “A lot of squealing but we got through it and it turned out beautifully,” Hannah tweeted. Another friend responded “a little squealing? That’s an understatement, I was covering my ears lol.”

Leigh-Anne has not spoken about the meaning of the tattoo, but it is possible that it was inspired by Little Mix’s single “Wings,” with four butterflies for the four members of the group. The song contains the line “Mama told me not to waste my life, she said spread your wings my little butterfly.” (more…)
