Movie Tattoos

Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner paid tribute to her role as Jean Grey in the X-Men movie series by getting a tattoo of the X-Men logo on her left side.  It’s not known exactly when she got the ribcage tattoo, which was first seen at the Beijing premiere of X-Men: Apocalypse in May 2016.

Rather than getting the classic X-Men logo, which has much thicker lines, her tattoo shows as updated version which serves as the logo for Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters in the film.  Sophie played a younger version of Jean Grey who was a student at the school.  She will resume her role as a more mature Jean Grey and alter-ego the Phoenix in the 2019 film X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Fellow actress Alexandra Shipp, who plays Ororo Munroe / Storm, has a matching tattoo.

Julia Michaels

Julia Michaels celebrated the holidays with family in a unique way — she and her father got matching tattoos on December 28, 2017. They chose the Golden Snitch from the Harry Potter series inked in vibrant color. Julia’s tattoo is on her upper right arm and her dad’s is on the inside of his forearm.

Her father has come a long way with his attitude about tattoos since Julia started getting inked at age 18. Back then he was apprehensive about Julia getting tattoos and definitely didn’t want any for himself. But seeing Julia’s thoughtful works of art has made him change his mind. She told Universal Music:

The first tattoo that I ever got was this microphone when I was 18. My dad used to be very conservative. And when I told him I wanted to get a tattoo he [said] “I don’t know how I feel about that” but I [said] “you should come with me.” And when he came with me, he was so in love with the process that he now wants to get one with me.

Scout Taylor-Compton

Scout Taylor-Compton has a “dinglehopper” tattoo on her back in honor of her favorite movie The Little Mermaid. In the film, Ariel is obsessed with human culture. She finds a fork and since she doesn’t know what it really is, she calls it a “dinglehopper” and uses it to brush her hair.

This tattoo was added next to the existing quotes on Scout’s back from artist Joshua Greener at the Spooky Empire Tattoo Festival in Orlando, FL in April 2017. Of course she went to Walt Disney World while she was in Orlando!

Kirstin Maldonado

Kirstin Maldonado got a tattoo of a rose on the side of her right index finger in July 2017.  It is inspired by the character Rose from the movie Titanic.

Artist Romeo Lacoste documented the process on his YouTube channel (video below).  Rather than drawing the rose on a piece of paper and transferring it to her finger, her designed the image by drawing directly on Kirstin’s finger with a marker and then going over it with his tattoo gun.  This freehand approach ensures that the tattoo fits perfectly on the body.

Romeo is known for his rose designs and Kirstin actually reached out to him on Twitter when he was looking to film a client getting tattooed. “I just had a genius idea. I should do a YouTube video of a time lapse of one of my mini freehand roses. That be sick,” he tweeted. To which Kirstin replied “I volunteer.”
