Love Tattoos

January Jones

January Jones got a half-needle design of concentric circles containing dates, an arrow and a heart on her left forearm. The tattoo was made in honor of her son Xander and it contains her and her son birthdays inside the two circles.
The art by Dr. Woo was posted on the tattooist Instagram with the caption “Nothing stronger than a mothers love” on September 26, 2016.

Bruna Marquezine’s first tattoo was a heart on her left ring finger knuckle, where a wedding ring would be worn.

Some fans have speculated that it matches her ex-boyfriend and soccer star Neymar’s ring finger tattoo of a crown, which represents how his future wife will be his queen, but Bruna has said that her tattoo is about love in general and not for any specific person.

In an interview with R7, she explained (translated):

I am very moved by love, always was, and it always has been one of the most important things for me. It’s one of the lessons of my family. My mother always spoke highly of love and God to me. So I made a cross and a heart for it.

She has also tweeted about it’s meaning (translated):

The heart is because I’m in love with hearts! Every paper I take I draw a heart! I really love it. And I chose the finger where I will put my wedding ring! Then one day it will be my heart for love of my life. They say this is the only finger that is directly on the heart, so we use the ring on it! Beautiful is not it?! Love this tattoo.

Melanie Martinez

Melanie Martinez has a tattoo on her left calf of the children’s book character Madeline along with a quote from the series.  In the stories, Madeline lives in a Catholic boarding school in Paris.  She and her schoolmates always say a prayer before they eat their meals: “We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all, we love each other.” It is a reminder that the people in our lives are the most important thing.  Melanie included this prayer in her tattoo, which features Madeline holding a loaf of bread and is surrounded by little pink hearts. It was inked by artist Nat G at Good Luck Tattoo in January 2016.

Melanie Martinez’s thigh tattoos are a pair of illustrations from Japanese artist Masami Yanagida which represent the complexity of relationships. On her right leg is a naked couple with their head in a lottery wheel and on her left leg is a clothed couple with their heads in a maze. Both designs show the detachment between our minds and our bodies.  Together they show that sex is a game based on luck while relationships are a challenge.  Notably, both heads in the relationship illustration are together at the end of the maze, while in the sex illustration they are apart. Though Melanie omitted the text from her tattoo, in the original artwork the clothed man has the word “tough” on his shirt to show that relationships are difficult — but worth it to complete the challenge together.

She got the outlines on both legs in December 2015 (seen in her music video for “Crybaby”) and had them colored in April 2016 (seen in the “Alphabet Boy” video).
