Leigh-Anne Pinnock

Leigh-Anne Pinnock butterfly back tattoo

Leigh-Anne Pinnock has two tattoos which are both located on her back. First she got the word “Believe” on the back of her neck.

In March 2013 she added a large tattoo spanning from the center of her back onto her right shoulder blade. The design is of sheet music with a treble clef on the left side and four butterflies which get progressively larger in size from left to right.

Leigh-Anne had the design drawn up by her good friend Hannah Lisa, who is a Fine Art student at Arts University Bournemouth. “Inked again mixers.. Designed by my beautiful bestie @hannahlisab :) thanks chick i love it!” Leigh-Anne tweeted.

The tattoo seems to have been quite painful. “A lot of squealing but we got through it and it turned out beautifully,” Hannah tweeted. Another friend responded “a little squealing? That’s an understatement, I was covering my ears lol.”

Leigh-Anne has not spoken about the meaning of the tattoo, but it is possible that it was inspired by Little Mix’s single “Wings,” with four butterflies for the four members of the group. The song contains the line “Mama told me not to waste my life, she said spread your wings my little butterfly.” (more…)

Hayley Williams

The three members of Paramore – singer Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and bassist Jeremy Davis – all got matching tattoos in August 2011 to represent their unity as a band. Hayley and Jeremy both got it on their wrists while Taylor’s is a bit further up his arm, closer to his elbow.

Explaining the design, Hayley says “we just really wanted something simple that describes the three of us and the people around us.” The band drew a number of designs and decided on this one of a black rectangle with three white bars to represent the three band members. “It’s so simple, it really couldn’t get any more simple, but that’s the point,” Hayley explains. This logo was then used as the cover for Paramore’s Singles 7″ box set and digital release, the band’s first release a three-piece unit.

In a KROQ interview, Hayley joked that they can’t add any new members to the band because of the tattoos: “we just got tattoos that have only three white bars in them, so if we ever add any new members we’re screwed!” (more…)

Selena Gomez

selena gomez music note wrist tattoo

Selena Gomez’s first tattoo was a tiny music note on the side of her right wrist. “I was named after a singer [Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez] and music obviously is a big influence for me,” Selena told E! Online. “And there’s music stuff with my mom that means a lot to me, too.”

Selena got the tattoo at Under The Gun in Hollywood, CA by artist Louie Gomez on February 22, 2012. The tattoo came shortly after Selena announced that she would be taking a break from music to spend most of 2012 focusing on her acting career. Perhaps she wanted the tattoo to remind herself that music is a part of her even when she’s not performing?
