This tattoo on Melanie Martinez’s right calf is a work of art from Japanese illustrator Masami Yanagida. It depicts a man whose body is cut into slices, with rose buds spilling out of the openings. The writing on his midsection says “Love Love You.” Melanie got the tattoo in December 2015 and shared a photo of the original artwork. (more…)
Melanie Martinez has a few tattoos of drawings by Masami Yanagida, but this one on her left calf was the first. It’s a little girl jumping in the air but her head is cut off and roses are spilling out of her neck. The girl’s blouse says “For Joy” as a reference to the expression “jump for joy.” Melanie went to artist Gary Royal in October 2015 who turned the drawing ink permanent body art. They made some changes to the colors, most noticeably making the skirt pink. (more…)
Lil Debbie and her friend Pata Fria have matching portrait tattoos of Oakland rapper Mac Dre who died in 2004. Both were done by artist @1of_demdirty_guatemalins in December 2013.
In September 2016, Kreayshawn got a tattoo on her chest of the Anima Sola, which is a Roman Catholic depiction of purgatory. It is a woman being engulfed by flames while her wrists are in chains.

Kreayshawn has a large piece on her left side of a girl and a cat. She says: “I need to complete this big old thing that I’ve got on my side, I’m trying to get it finished because I’ve only got the main outline of it now. It’s a lady holding a cat. I love cats, I just can’t help it!”
Lights has a colorful tattoo on her upper thigh of a World of Warcraft character surrounded by flowers. “It’s a portrait of the alliance king from World of Warcraft, King Varian. He’s like my celebrity crush. I also kinda mutated his face to look like my fiancé [Beau Bokan].
Lights has a tattoo on the inside of her upper left arm of a Final Fantasy-inspired female character. “She’s kind of a beast master. She looks a bit Final Fantasy-esque. Another sort of female warrior empowerment thing that makes me feel cool and strong.”
Yasmine Yousaf has a portrait on her right forearm of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain with half of his face as a zombie. A Krewella fan drew the design for her and she had it tattooed in April 2013.
She told iHeartRadio “This one is like my dedication to Kurt Cobain cause he’s what got me obsessed with music in general. They were my first obsession band. I was obsessed with Nirvana, so this is like my tribute to him being alive forever and his music, but him also being dead in real life.”
Krysta Cameron has a large tattoo on her right thigh of the character Beetlejuice.
In October 2014, Alexia Rodriguez got a tattoo on her forearm of one of her own drawings. It is a portrait of a woman’s face with skeletal features and stitches around the mouth. Artist Joshua at Crimson Veil Tattoo in El Paso, TX transformed Alexia’s artwork into the permanent inking.
