Katy Perry’s oldest tattoo is “Jesus” written on her left wrist, which she got when she was 18. Katy comes from a religious family and her parent are both evangelical ministers. She grew up listening to only gospel music and released her own gospel album under her real name Katy Hudson in 2001.
Katy got this tattoo as a constant reminder of her religious upbringing, which will always be a part of her. In 2009 she told Katie Couric “I knew I wanted this on me because no matter how much changes around me or how much I change, there’s not really an eraser for this.” She says that when she plays the guitar, “It stares right back at me. It’s like ‘remember, you came from this, and you can always go back to it.'”
Katy has not spoken much about her current religious beliefs, but it seems that this tattoo is mostly about how she has been shaped by her past. “I think I’m not exactly what I was born into, but I still have my roots,” she says. “I appreciate it, and I respect it to the fullest.” Katy has clashed with her religious parents over her partying and songs about kissing girls, but they remain generally supportive of her career. Kelly Osbourne and her brother Jack have matching tattoos of each other’s names on their wrists. While Kelly now regrets many of her tattoos, this one is still meaningful to her. “Some still have a special meaning, like the matching ones my brother Jack and I have of each other’s names, but now I feel like some were a mistake,” she told Closer magazine.
Lil Debbie has her mother’s name “Donna” in a heart on the inside of her left upper arm. (more…)
Lil Debbie’s real name is Jordan Capozzi and she has her family name “Capozzi” tattooed on her upper back. (more…)
Jordin Sparks has a tattoo of her brother’s name “PJ” behind her left ear. Before getting the tattoo, she revealed her plans to MSN: “I think I might get [a tattoo] when I’m 18. My mom’s is going to go with me and I’m going to get my brother’s name, P.J. It’ll be small and dainty, nothing huge or where people can see it all the time.”
Amber Rose and her fiancé Wiz Khalifa have tattoos of each other’s names on their thumbs. His says “Amb” while hers is “Cam” for his real name Cameron Thomaz. It is surrounded by hearts on both sides.
Speaking of couple’s tattoos, Amber told Inked Magazine “Wiz and I did it, but we want to be together forever. So I guess really make sure you want to be with that person forever, and try to wait until you’re older, when you can make better decisions. I suggest getting a small tattoo, just in case you break up—then it’s an easy cover-up.” She has already learned that lesson once — she had the name “Ernest” tattooed on her arm for an old boyfriend when she was only 15 years old, but had the tattoo covered by the roses on her arm. Before getting it covered, she told Sirius radio “I learned alot from him so every time I look at that tattoo I know not to make the same mistakes.”
Amber is much more mature this time around and feels differently about the relationship. She tweeted “I want his name tatted on me a million times.”
The “Faye” tattoo on Kellie Pickler’s foot is the name of her grandmother. Kellie has a special relationship with her grandma, who she says “was like my mom and my best friend.” Kellie was abandoned by her mother at the age of two and her father was in and out of jail, so she was raised by her grandparents.
Faye died in 2002 and Kellie honored her with the tattoo in 2008. Kellie also wrote a song “My Angel” dedicated to her grandmother, a characterization which is shown with a halo on the tattoo. She told Maxim magazine, “My grandmother would be mortified if she knew I had these [tattoos]. She’s passed away now, but she would say, ‘Tattoos are the devil!’ So my first tattoo, of course, was my grandma’s name.”
Zoë Kravitz honors her mother, actress Lisa Bonet, with a “Mama” tattoo just above her right elbow.
The large tattoo on Heidi Klum’s forearm may look like just a swirl, but it actually represents her ex-husband and her children. The large part of the tattoo is a stylized version of “Seal,” for her ex-husband singer Seal Samuel.
The four stars are for her four children, and each star has an initial in the center. From bottom to top, the stars represent each child in the order of their birth: “L” for Helene who is nicknamed “Leni,” “H” for Henry, “J” for Johan, and “L” for Lou.
Heidi and Seal were divorced in 2012 after seven years of marriage. We don’t know if Heidi will decide to remove the tattoo.
