LIGHTS Poxleitner

Lights has a lion on her left elbow.  She has a song called “Lions” and admires them as an animal.  “I’ve always thought lions were the epitome of beauty and strength and power,” she says.

Lions are also tied to memories of her childhood.  “My mom used to sit there in bed and read us the Narnia series growing up. And Aslan [the lion character in the books] represented something really great.  It’s just kinda grace and power all in one.”

LIGHTS Poxleitner

Rather than covering the old black ink heart and banner tattoo on her left forearm, Lights had it incorporated into a large and colorful new tattoo.  It is a coat of arms which she designed to represents different aspects of her life.   On the left side of the shield is Jesus’ name in Hebrew and and on the right side are the initials “EPVP” for her parents’ names Eric Poxleitner and Virginia Poxleitner.  Planets, a raygun, and music notes reflect her outer space alter-ego Captain Lights.  A lion and a griffin are on the sides crushing a dragon on the bottom.

Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne’s first tattoo was a detailed lion’s face on her index finger, which she got in May 2013.

Tattoo artist Bang Bang told Heat how he and Cara came up with the design: “Cara wanted the word ‘lion’ on her finger and I told her that I didn’t think that was too sexy. I said ‘let’s put a real lion on there,’ because it’s unique, it’s hot, it looks like jewelry, like an accessory. I think it’s a great use of a really small spot of skin. I have a similar one myself that is a Japanese mask, and Cara loved that. It was a photo reference from a real lion that I mapped out, I translated it so it works small, so you have to think about the aging process, because fingers don’t fade perfectly. I altered the image on the fly.”

Tay Jardine Lion King Tattoo

Tay Jardine got her first tattoo in December 2012.  She and her friend Sam Panagakos got matching tattoos on their wrist of Simba from The Lion King.  The tattoos were done at Planet New York Tattoo in Poughkeepsie, NY.

She explained the meaning on her twitter: “it’s a reminder for me to stay grounded ‘remember who you are'”

Tay is a big fan of Disney movies and The Lion King is one of her favorites. The particular image that they chose is not the character Simba himself, but Rafiki’s drawing of Simba from the film.
