Black Ink Tattoos

Catt Sadler

Catt Sadler has a tattoo of two carat symbols > < on her right wrist which symbolize living in the present moment. In a post on her blog she explained its meaning:

“The ink on my right wrist isn’t a greater than less than sign, no. Truth is I saw this on a model at a photo shoot about 5 years ago. She explained that what it symbolized was a reminder to stay in the moment. The past, to my left if I’m staring at my tat, is the past. The future, to my right, is not promised, and may never even arrive. All that we are given is this very moment, and there in lies the gift of life. Focus on now. Be in this very breath. See the people before you. Quiet your mind and focus on *here* and *now*. I especially cherish that I can see this ink all day every day, as often as I see my hands really. It’s a gentle and permanent reminder to me. It’s especially sweet because I got inked with a dear friend of mine who got it in the exact same place. Love you LZ.”

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson has a tattoo of puzzle pieces on the right side of her upper back. The flesh tone puzzle piece is pulled away to display a scene inspired by The Wizard of Oz. She told Gay Times:

“How it is on me is, it’s like you’ve removed the top layer of me and you can see inside. So inside the puzzle piece is this little tornado with a golden brick road and a hot air balloon, a kind of Wizard of Oz theme. It’s like you peek inside. It’s a very dark tattoo actually, it was a childhood thing I loved but also it worked for my life at the time. I feel like when I got this tattoo, I don’t even know how many years ago, I felt no matter how hard I clicked I just couldn’t find a home. And by home, I just mean I’ve always longed for a family. A solid family foundation and I just hadn’t had that.”

She might not remember when she got it done, but we do! She got inked at Henk Schiffmacher’s Hanky Panky Tattoo Parlour in Amsterdam during her All I Ever Wanted Tour in February 2010.

Ashley Rickards

Ashley Rickards’ first tattoo was this infinity symbol on the back of her neck. She got the tattoo in October 2013, when she was 21 years old, but she had thought about it for many years beforehand. “I’ve wanted that since I was 14,” she told PopSugar.

The specifics of the design were impulsive though. “I called my friend and I was like ‘I think I need to get a tattoo!’ So I just met him and we went to the tattoo place and there were four people in there that I didn’t know…So you look up the image and pick it out…and I literally told the strangers to pick out — because there’s a million types of ways you can do it — and I told them, I’m like ‘pick it’ and they picked it.”

Kesha

Kesha dollar sign hand tattoo

Kesha got this dollar sign tattoo early in her career. The dollar sign in her name actually came from her tattoo which symbolizes her lack of money at the time.

“The dollar sign in my name is a tattoo–a bad tattoo. And, uh, it just came about because I was broke, and I was just making a joke out of it. Instead of being, like, mad like, ‘I’m so broke,’ I was just like, ‘WHATEVER! Out of money…Whatever. I don’t need money.’ So, out of money, put it on my hand, put it in my name, and it was just kind of a joke, and it stuck.”

She stylized her name as Ke$ha for many years. After she left rehab in March 2014 she turned over a new leaf and dropped the dollar sign from her name because she felt that it represented her old self.
