Arm Tattoos

Zoë Kravitz

Zoë Kravitz went to her favorite tattoo artist Dr. Woo on December 27, 2015 to get a new tattoo on the inside of her left forearm. Her tattoo is a palm tree on the beach with delicate leaves in Dr Woo’s signature single-needle style. “Bahamas” is written vertically along the trunk of the tree.

Zoë has multiple ties to the Caribbean island. Her paternal grandmother was from the Bahamas and her father owns a home there. She spent the 2015 Christmas holiday writing and recording new music with her band Lolawolf in the Bahamas and then got this tattoo as soon as she returned home to Los Angeles.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus and her mother Leticia “Tish” Cyrus went together to get tattoos from artist Dr Woo in April 2016. Tish got an arrow on her arm and Miley got a tribute to Elvis Presley. On her right arm, just below her elbow, are the letters of Elvis’ name in the shape of a heart. It’s shaded so that the letters are dark and the top and bottom and lighter in the center. (more…)

Miley Cyrus got a tattoo of jar of Vegemite on the back of her left arm in July 2016. The tattoo is a tribute to her long-time boyfriend/fiance Liam Hemsworth, who is Australian. Vegemite is yeast-based food spread which is popular in Australia — and generally hated everywhere else!

While most of Miley’s arm tattoos have a homemade look to them, she went to famed Los Angeles artist Dr Woo for this one.  He used his signature half-needle technique to cram lots of detail into the small tattoo. (more…)

“When i wake up in the morning I decide. I decide how i want to act, I decide who i want to be, I decide who i surround myself with, I decide how i choose to look at things, I decide what to put my energy into… I decide my happiness and I decide my life. I’ve been writing this on my arm for as long as I can remember. May sound cheesy but it’s something i’m glad i can always look down on and remember ? Thank you @jonboytattoo for bringing this to life! ❤️”

Daniella Monet

Daniella Monet has a tattoo of a little V-shaped sprout on her right wrist to celebrate her vegan lifestyle. She also enjoys sharing vegan recipes on her blog. In a testimonial for Peta2, she explains:

At a young age I loved animals. And I knew at 5 — I went to a dude ranch with my family and I asked a lot of questions and I got answers that I probably needed to hear and it changed my opinion. That’s when I became vegetarian. Throughout those years I started eliminating cheese and eggs and dairy. By the time I was in my early teens I was a vegan, and didn’t really know it, it was so easy to make that transition. Just eating more of the foods that I enjoyed and felt best eating, which were veggies and more of a plant-based diet. It’s been a while now and I enjoy it.

In October 2015 she posted an instagram photo of a sprout that she drew on her wrist with a marker. “I think I just designed my next tattoo,” she wrote. In June 2016 she shared a picture of the actual tattoo and wrote “my new little sprout.”

Marzia Bisognin

Marzia got this tattoo on her right forearm in October 2016 at the same time as the lemon tree on her opposite arm.  It is two hands making shadow puppets which reminds her of memories of her childhood. She explained on her blog how making shadow puppets helps her sleep and makes her feel less alone:

The second one I got is hands forming a shadow puppet. This brings me back, all the way to my childhood, but is still relevant to this day.

I don’t know if this happens in all kindergartens, but in mine, after lunch, the teachers would put all the kids in a room and made them sleep.

I never ever managed to fall asleep, not once, whilst all the other kids would sleep normally.

You may already know that I didn’t really like going to kindergarten at all – I would cry every morning, I would get closed in the lunch room cause I didn’t finish eating food I didn’t like – and sleeping time also wasn’t a big favourite of mine.

What I eventually came up with was to make shadow puppets with my hands, and make them talk to me quietly, so I wouldn’t feel so lonely.

Still to this day, at times, I have troubles sleeping: generally I can make myself relaxed enough by thinking about a train passing by on a summer night (I used to live near one, and although it may seem like a very annoying and loud thing to find relaxing, I used to love it as a kid), but if that doesn’t work, I will go back to my shadow puppet hands.
