Neon Hitch's "Pema" tattoo on her arm
On the back of her right arm, Neon Hitch has a tattoo of her sister’s name “Pema.” It’s done in a very stylized way with three lines for the “E” and a triangle for the “A”.
Neon Hitch is a songwriter as well as a singer and she co-wrote Ke$ha’s hit song “Blah Blah Blah.” Neon got this tattoo on a night of partying with Ke$ha after they completed the song. Ke$ha got a dollar sign on her hand at the same time (see Ke$ha’s tattoos). Neon explains:
The song came about really quickly, and then to celebrate we both took the subway to Harlem and got tattoos. I tattooed my sister’s name ‘Pema’ because I love her so much. [My sister] got my name tattooed on her too.
Pema’s tattoo of Neon’s name is on the back of her neck, and it’s done in the same style.

Neon Hitch has “Gypsy” tattooed on her wrist as a symbol of pride in her gypsy roots. Neon’s family are gypsies and she grew up in a caravan, traveling from place to place. As a child she was trained as a trapeze artist. Her family never had any money, and Neon has said that although it was hard being poor, “it was a beautiful lifestyle growing up and getting to see the world.”
Though gypsies are often looked upon with hatred, Neon is proud of her culture and says “I’m trying to stand up for my community and prove we’re not all bad.”

Neon later had symbols added around her gypsy tattoo, including a heart, triangle, star, and circle. On the top is an Eye of Horus, which is an Egyptian symbol of protection.

Neon updated the tattoo most recently in October 2012. This time she added a border around the whole tattoo, added a solid black triangle above the eye, transformed the circle and triangle at the bottom into spirals, and added lines through the star.

Neon Hitch tattooed “AMY” on her finger in memory of the late Amy Winehouse, who had been a close friend and roommate of Neon’s.
Throughout my life I have been a wild and loud rebellious child and have had angels looking out for me, [Amy Winehouse] is one of them. Amy is the big sister I never had and took me in when I was homeless. She cared so much for other people I wish she could have cared for herself as much as she did for others.

Neon has “They said I’m a dreamer” written along her ribcage. Unfortunately Neon has not spoken about this tattoo, so we don’t know precisely what meaning it has to her.
