Mila J has a tattoo on her left forearm of a smiley face and the phrase “why aren’t you smiling?”, which is something that was said by her deceased brother Miyagi Chilombo. Her sister Jhené Aiko has this saying on her wrist.
The tattoo faces inwards towards Mila, so it looks upside-down most of the time.
Bunny Meyer (grav3yardgirl on YouTube) got her first tattoo in December 2010. It’s on the inside of her left wrist/forearm and it says “Real Horrorshow.” This phrases comes from the movie A Clockwork Orange which one of her two all-time favorite movies (the other is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas). It also has a deep personal meaning.
In a YouTube video, Bunny explained “They speak a special language in that movie which is kind of like slang, like from Russian slang, and it’s called Nadsat. ‘Real Horrowshow’ is a codeword for something good or something awesome. I was going through some really rough stuff in 2010. I was in and out of the hospital a lot. I had gotten into a really bad car accident and broke my hand. So I got this tattoo kind of in homage of feeling good, feeling better. It has a lot of symbolism for me.”
Avril Lavigne’s biggest tattoo yet is the writing on her left forearm which says “La vie en Rose / Vivre le moment présent”, which is French for “Life in Pink / Living in the moment.” She got this tattoo with her husband Chad Kroeger, though they weren’t yet dating at the time. Avril and Chad were working together writing songs for her self-titled album when she suggested the tattoos. Avril told Chelsea Lately “When I met him I was really surprised that he didn’t have any tattoos, so the second day in the studio I’m like, ‘I’m so getting you your first tattoo.’” The tattoos weren’t intended to be matching — originally Avril had just the first line “La vie en Rose” and Chad had “Vivre le moment présent,” but she later added the second line in order to match his. Hayley Williams has quote on her left forearm which says “Accentuate the positive / Eliminate the negative.” It is written in capital letters in an uneven handwriting. These are lyrics from the 1944 song “Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive” written by Johnny Mercer.
Hayley got this tattoo done by artist Dan Smith in March 2012. Because Paramore wasn’t touring at the time, no one saw the tattoo until Hayley shared a picture on paramore.net in May 2012. When she finally revealed the ink, she wrote “Kept this one to myself for a while. A Johnny Mercer lyric/life philosophy. Thx @dansmithism!”
Vanessa Hudgens has an tattoo of the om symbol (ॐ) across both of her hands — half on one pinky finger and half on the other. Om is a scared mantra in Hinduism and other Dharmic religions which is said at the beginning of prayer. Vanessa chose this unusual placement so that the tattoo comes together when she puts her hands in a praying or meditating position.
She told Access Hollywood that she got the tattoo “so I can spread positive energy” and that she can “bring it together to center [myself].”
Artist Bang Bang did the tattoo in September 2011. Her friend Ashley Tisdale got her foot tattoo at the same time.
Kay has a tattoo on the back of her left wrist which says “Smile” in cursive writing.
The Material lead singer Colleen D’Agostino and her husband Jon Moreaux got matching “Come What May” tattoos in August 2013 while on tour in Portland. Hers is on the inside of her left upper arm and his is on his chest.
Jesy Nelson of Little Mix got a pair of tattoos in July 2013 which were her first. On her right thigh are the words “A tiger never loses sleep over the opinions of sheep,” an inspiring message to rise above criticism and hatred. (more…)
