The Chinese characters tattooed on Kerli’s neck mean music. This was her first tattoo which she got on her sixteenth birthday. Kerli’s mother challenged her to learn everything that she could about Chinese culture before allowing her to get the tattoo.
Evan Rachel Wood has a diamond and swirls on the inside of her right ankle, covering up a previous tattoo. It’s inspired by the songs “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” by Pink Floyd and “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” by The Beatles.
Her original tattoo had the same theme but was more ambiguous. It was a combination of a strawberry and a bird with a tiny diamond next to it, representing The Beatles songs’ “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Blackbird,” and “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.” She got the tattoo after acting in the musical film Across the Universe based on the music of The Beatles. However the tattoo was too detailed for its small size. She told People “Nobody can figure out what it is. It’s supposed to be a strawberry with leaves in the shape of a bird, but everybody says, ‘Is that a ferret sticking out of an apple?'”
With the cover-up she narrowed it down to just one theme and went for a clear and obvious shape.
On Dev’s inner bicep she has the lyrics “We used to talk like lovers,” which comes from The Cateracs’ song “Undercover.” Dev has collaborated with The Cataracs on most of her music and they are also very close friends. (more…)
Friday the 13th tattoos are a tradition in tattoo parlors where clients can get a tattoo of the number 13 for $13. Hanna Beth got this “13” made out of lightning bolts on Friday January 13, 2012 at True Tattoo in Hollywood, CA.
The red ink tattoo above it says “Never Mind The Bollocks” for the Sex Pistols’ classic punk album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.
Hanna Beth Merjos has “Rock N Roll!” tattooed on the side of her right hand, which she got in December 2009.
Hanna Beth Merjos got a tattoo on the outside of her right foot in July 2010 which says “rebel rebel,” the title of a David Bowie song.
On the inside of Hanna Beth Merjos’ right upper arm are the words “Let It Bleed.” It was done in two sessions — first she got just the words in Gothic lettering in April 2012 and then in August 2012 she had it surrounded it by shading and swirls. The tattoo was inspired by The Rolling Stones who have an album called Let It Bleed and by Courtney Love who has the same words tattooed in the same location.
Emily Armstrong has a “ds” tattoo on her right elbow for her band Dead Sara. She and the rest of the band got the matching tattoos done in May 2013 by artist Rus Laich.
Jessie J has a tattoo behind her left ear of an upside down treble clef and a bass clef which together form a heart. She told Independent “I wanted something that says I love music.”

Carah Faye Charnow has “Walk Together / Rock Together” tattooed across both of her forearms. She explains: “Walk Together, Rock Together” was an album/title track for a punk band names 7 Seconds. I had it on cassette and it was one of my favorites back in the day! It’s just a great message of unity.”
