On the inside of JoJo’s right ear are two music note and three tiny red stars. She tells WhenInManila.com, “These are just musical notes. And then people think that these are freckles — they’re not. They’re just three red dots. Don’t ask me why they’re there, I just think they’re kinda cool looking.”

JoJo has an outline of the state of Massachusetts — where she grew up — in red ink on the right side of her ribcage.
The heart shaped design on JoJo’s left ankle is a West African symbol “Onyankopon Adom Nti Biribiara Beye Yie.” It means “By God’s grace, all will be well.” (more…)

On JoJo’s right ring finger knuckle is a shamrock which she says “represent[s] my roots in Massachusetts.” Though she was born in Brattleboro, Vermont; she spent most of her childhood in Foxborough, Massachusetts along with Keene, New Hampshire. JoJo has other tattoos representing both states. Why a four-leaf clover? Massachusetts is a heavily Irish state, and JoJo is herself part Irish. (more…)
Grimes and her brothers all have matching tattoos of the triforce symbol from The Legend of Zelda, her favorite video game. Grimes’ tattoo is on her left arm just below the elbow. She explains to Bullett, “The Legend of Zelda was the first video game me and my brothers ever got, and so we all got matching Triforce tattoos.”
Grimes’ left hand has a number of DIY tattoos. She explains their meanings to Prefix Mag: “I did them all myself, I have a Greek meander that is often mistaken for a square wave on my finger (very telling of the times), an alien head because I believe in aliens, an “8” because its my lucky number and a wrist band my friend designed for me that I did in the woods in Minnesota.”
Grimes has a outline of a crescent moon on her left thumb.
On the knuckles of Grimes’ left hand, she has trios of squiggly lines in alternating directions.
Grimes has an ornate black cross on the inside of her right wrist.
