Carah Faye Charnow used to have the word “Childish” tattooed on the inside of her lip. It has since worn off and been replaced with a “PMA” tattoo. She explains: “Tattoo may have faded, but I’m still childish.”
Carah Faye Charnow has the words “Fighting My Battle” tattooed on the inside of her left wrist. She wrote that this tattoo is “my constant reminder to not give up.”
Katy Perry’s oldest tattoo is “Jesus” written on her left wrist, which she got when she was 18. Katy comes from a religious family and her parent are both evangelical ministers. She grew up listening to only gospel music and released her own gospel album under her real name Katy Hudson in 2001.
Katy got this tattoo as a constant reminder of her religious upbringing, which will always be a part of her. In 2009 she told Katie Couric “I knew I wanted this on me because no matter how much changes around me or how much I change, there’s not really an eraser for this.” She says that when she plays the guitar, “It stares right back at me. It’s like ‘remember, you came from this, and you can always go back to it.'”
Katy has not spoken much about her current religious beliefs, but it seems that this tattoo is mostly about how she has been shaped by her past. “I think I’m not exactly what I was born into, but I still have my roots,” she says. “I appreciate it, and I respect it to the fullest.” Katy has clashed with her religious parents over her partying and songs about kissing girls, but they remain generally supportive of her career. Kat Graham has a tattoo on the inside of her left wrist which says “nosce te ipsum.” The words are written in Latin and it means “know thyself.”
Alice Dellal has a tattoo on the side of her left hand below her thumb. It appears to say “OLIV.”
Lily Allen and her friend Lindsay Lohan got matching “shhh…” tattoos on their index fingers at Shamrock Tattoos in West Hollywood after a night of partying.
Unfortunately Lily didn’t realize that Rihanna already had the same tattoo, and now regrets it. In an interview on the Australian TV show Rove, she revealed “I since found out that Rihanna’s got the same thing, so it’s not really — I mean she’s very cool, but you know what I mean, it’s like I thought I was being original.” Lily and Lindsay got their tattoos in February 2009 but Rihanna has had hers since June 2008.
It’s a reminder that you should always do your research before getting a tattoo!
The tattoo on Megan Fox’s right shoulder blade says “We will all laugh at gilded butterflies” in a medieval gothic font. The quote comes from Shakespeare’s play King Lear, though Megan slightly altered the wording.
Going down Megan Fox’s right side is a passage from German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. It reads “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.” It’s a statement to live your life without fear of judgement because your actions won’t always make sense to people who don’t understand the circumstances.
Lena Dunham’s “Staunch” tattoo on her wrist is a matching tattoo with her best friend. The word choice was inspired by the movie Grey Gardens. “It’s from Grey Gardens, where they talk about being staunch characters,” she told Time. Staunch means loyal and dedicated.
