Upper Arm Tattoos

Ruby Rose

Ruby Rose has a huge portrait of graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat on her upper left arm, which she got from artist Jessica Mascitti Ellis at the New York City tattoo parlor East Side Ink in June 2014. She is a huge fan of Basquiat and previously tattooed his iconic crown logo on her chest.

Some fans noted a resemblance between the portrait’s whacky hairstyle and singer The Weeknd, so Ruby took to twitter to clear the air and encourage her followers to look up Basquiat’s art and the graffiti tag SAMO which he shared with fellow graffiti artist Al Diaz. “Although I love the @theweeknd no he is not tattooed on my arm. it’s Basquiat. SAMO! You’re missing out if you don’t about SAMO,” she tweeted.

Basquiat was one of the most prominent street artists of the 1970s and 1980s, but he died tragically of a heroin overdose in 1988 at the age of 27. In tweet, Ruby wrote “So many people dont know Basquiat? You should watch one of the documentaries or read up beautiful soul, lost too young. My favorite Artist.”

In January 2014, Ruby Rose got a tattoo on her left upper arm which says “Be the person your dog thinks you are” in hand-written letters. She explained its meaning to The Cut:

“Dogs: They have a love for you like you could do no wrong. The way they look at you is so amazing. They never get bored of you. You’re perfect to them. Imagine that you were the person that they see all the time. Nice, giving, caring, loving, and even patient when you have to pick up their poop. You’d be the best version of yourself.”
