Finger Tattoos

Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner has a tattoo on her right ring finger of five tally marks to represent the five members of her family: herself, her mother and father, and her two brothers James and Will Turner. She got the tattoo on February 21, 2016, which was her 20th birthday, because she was away from her family and wanted a reminder that they are always with her even when they aren’t physically present. She told Just Jared:

It’s like a tally of 5 for my family of 5. I got it when I was really missing them in Canada. It was on my birthday and it was me and one person. We were the only people there. And I was like, “I’m on my birthday and I woke up and my parents aren’t here and my family isn’t here” so I got this. I’m very tight with them. It’s faded in certain parts so I’ve got to get it topped off. It rubs away easier so I try and keep my fingers like this (spreads them out).

Florence Welch

This design of two triangles which is tattooed on Florence Welch’s left middle finger knuckle is also the logo for her album How Big How Blue How Beautiful and has appeared on the album art for a few different singles and remixes. The triangles symbolize two of the four basic elements in alchemy.  The upright triangle with a line through it represents air, while the upside-down triangle represents water. Florence Welch has a birdcage tattoo on the knuckle of her right middle finger.  She collected birdcages as a child. “I got it done in Austin, Texas, at the Black Cat Tattoo parlour, where I got my first tattoo of a heart and a bird,” she told GQ. “I got it done at 2am by some massive guy with flame tattoos on his skull called Animal. It was a proper tattoo experience but it hurt so much.”

Fans who want to recreate the look without the commitment can buy a birdcage ring inspired by this tattoo from Florence’s jewelry line Flotique.

Bruna Marquezine

Bruna Marquezine’s first tattoo was a heart on her left ring finger knuckle, where a wedding ring would be worn.

Some fans have speculated that it matches her ex-boyfriend and soccer star Neymar’s ring finger tattoo of a crown, which represents how his future wife will be his queen, but Bruna has said that her tattoo is about love in general and not for any specific person.

In an interview with R7, she explained (translated):

I am very moved by love, always was, and it always has been one of the most important things for me. It’s one of the lessons of my family. My mother always spoke highly of love and God to me. So I made a cross and a heart for it.

She has also tweeted about it’s meaning (translated):

The heart is because I’m in love with hearts! Every paper I take I draw a heart! I really love it. And I chose the finger where I will put my wedding ring! Then one day it will be my heart for love of my life. They say this is the only finger that is directly on the heart, so we use the ring on it! Beautiful is not it?! Love this tattoo.

Maggie Lindemann

Four of Maggie Lindemann’s five knuckle tattoos are astronomy-related, so this dagger on her thumb seems out of place.  Maggie explained in a tweet that this tattoo isn’t connected to the others: “I’ve wanted a knife for a while but didn’t know where to put it, so I saw someone with one on their thumb and fell in love.”  She did however put dots below her nail like the tattoos on all of her other fingers.  She got this tattoo from artist Romeo Lacoste on October 16, 2016 at the same time as the star on her pinkie.  With all five fingers covered, she announced that her hand is now complete — but she’s still got room on her lower knuckles if she changes her mind!

The knife represents Maggie’s interest in blood and gore. “I’ve always been so fascinated with horror, murders, etc. so I felt it was appropriate,” she tweeted.
