Scout Taylor-Compton loves the Disney movie The Little Mermaid so much that she got a tattoo of Ariel. She explained to Current.com: I am deep, deep, deep fan of Little Mermaid. Yeah I know, childish. I love Ariel so much, she completes me, so much that I got her tattooed on my wrist. Everywhere in my house is Ariel-themed. Jennifer Nettles has the word “Believe” tattooed on the back of her left wrist. She hasn’t spoken specifically about this tattoo, but the told the Colorado Springs Gazette “People tattoo for different reasons. I use a tattoo as a marker of time, to be reminded of a time in my life. It is something special and personal. There’s a lyric in my song ‘Take Me as I Am’: ‘We all live with the scars we choose.’ Some scars are given to us and some we choose.”
Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles has a tattoo of a red heart with blue wings on the inside of her right upper arm which she got in 2006. A heart with wings is a fairly common tattoo design, and while some people seek originality in their tattoos, Jennifer likes the classic feel. She told US Weekly “It is an iconic tattoo, at least in the world of American tattoos.”
Kellie Pickler has a tattoo of stars on her left forearm just below the elbow. The stars represent the USO, or United Service Organizations Inc., which provides entertainment to American troops. Kellie has played shows through the USO for American soldiers serving abroad all over the world. The three stars are meant to represent each of her USO tours, but the tattoo hasn’t kept up with her service as she’s now done five tours! She says “I have stars on my left arm for my USO tours, but I’m missing two.”
The military is very special to Kellie, who comes from a military family. She even took a wounded soldier as her date to the CMT Awards instead of her husband. She told Maxim “I come from a military family. My grandfather is a retired Marine, and I’ve always had a great deal of respect for anyone who serves our country. It really does take someone special to sacrifice everything. I don’t mean just their lives, either. There are men who are sacrificing the chance to hold their newborn baby!”

Lindsay Lohan had “Breathe” tattooed in white ink on her right wrist following a serious asthma attack. She was hospitalized in January 2006 following an attack during which she ruptured an artery in her neck and got the tattoo that same month. “The attack was a big deal, so I wanted to commemorate it on my body as a reminder,” Lindsay said. The tattoo is also a reminder to slow down and enjoy life. In an interview on Ellen, she said “I forget to breathe sometimes.”
The heart on Zoë Kravitz’s wrist was her first tattoo and it’s a symbol of self-love. She told Stylelist “I have this heart which was my first tattoo I got when I was 18. You know in my name how I have the umlauts over the ‘ë’? Well, I have them over the heart and that’s to remind me to love myself.”
Zoë Kravitz has the initials “R.A.” on the inside of her right wrist for her two grandmothers — Roxie Roker and Arlene Litman.
