Ella Eyre

Ella Eyre has a writing tattoo on the left side of her upper back. The words “Sliem għalik, Marija, Bil-grazzja mimlija” come from the Maltese language version of the Catholic rosary prayer, meaning “Hail Mary, Full of Grace.”

She doesn’t speak any Maltese herself, but chose language because she is ethnically Maltese on her mother’s side (her father is Jamaican). She first visited Malta when she three years old and says it’s “one of my favourite places in the world.” Hundreds of her second cousins still live there and she’s gone there for occasions such as a family wedding.

The British singer-songwriter had her first performance in Malta at the Isle of MTV festival in June 2018. She told TVM that the language is so sentimental to her that just hearing a taxi driver talk reminded her of her Maltese-speaking grandmother.

This is Ella Eyre’s only tattoo. She has said that she is “done with tattoos” and doesn’t want any others because of how much she loves this one. “One is enough, means too much to overshadow with another,” she tweeted.

JoJo learn triangle finger tattoo

JoJo got two triangular symbols tattooed on her knuckles in July 2014. On her left ring finger is a triangle with a little dot above it, though the dot and the tip of the triangle wore off almost immediately. She wrote in an instagram comment “the triangle w the circle means ‘learn’.” This is not a common symbol, but rather it comes from a set of glyphs created by designer/illustrator duo Nathan Strandberd and Katie Kirk of the firm Eight Hour Day.

JoJo transcend triangle finger tattoo

This design of a triangle with a line through it is best known as the alchemical symbol for “air,” however JoJo’s finger tattoo seems to have a different personal meaning. JoJo had this tattoo on her index finger done in July 2014 at the same time as another triangle on her opposite ring finger. Both symbols come from an obscure a set of glyphs created by designer/illustrator duo Nathan Strandberd and Katie Kirk, according to which this triangle with a line means “transcend.”

JoJo Levesque

On the back of her neck, JoJo has her last name “Levesque” and “Live Free Or Die.” She got the name tattooed as a way of preserving it. “My father is the only boy out of his siblings, and I’m the only child of his. So after him when I get married the Levesque name will be no longer in our family. So I wanted to kind of immortalize it on myself,” she told Homorazzi.

Beneath it is “Live Free Or Die,” the state motto of New Hampshire. JoJo lived in Keene, NH for part of her childhood.
