Being True To Yourself Tattoos

Kesha

Kesha suck it lip tattoo

Kesha tattooed “SUCK IT!” on the inside of her lip in June 2012. The inner lip is often used for silly tattoos such as these because it’s almost always hidden, but Kesha showed hers off in a photo posted to her twitter.

She got the tattoo as a way of telling off her haters. She revealed to Conan “I was kind of fed up with all the nasty little bloggers and I was like ‘you know what, suck it.’” (more…)

Jessie J stars hip tattoo

Jessie J has a tattoo on her right hip that says “Don’t loose who you are in the blur of the stars” which is a line from her song “Who You Are.” Unfortunately there is a mistake in the tattoo as it should say “lose” instead of “loose.” Jessie has admitted that she is to blame for the typo. “I wrote it out wrong…My fault,” she says.

She has mixed feelings about the spelling error — on the one hand the song “Who You Are” is all about embracing imperfections, but she’s still frustrated by it. She joked to Elle magazine “The worst thing is, so many people have got it tattooed so better than I have. Ah well, maybe I can create a whole new meaning.”

There are three stars on either side of the writing, bent upwards in the back and downwards in the front. (more…)

Gabrielle Aplin

Gabrielle Aplin has a large tattoo on the inside of her left upper arm which says “Our dried voices, when / We whisper together / Are quiet and meaningless”. These lines come from the poem “The Hollow Men” by T.S. Eliot, which is her favorite poem as well as the inspiration for the song “Start Of Time” on her album English Rain.

On her blog, she wrote:

Start of time was inspired by my favourite poem ‘The Hollow Men – T. S. Eliot’. There’s a extract from the poem that has been embedded in my mind from the first day I read it: “Our dried voices when we whisper together are quiet and meaningless” It means lots to different people, but for me, it was about not following the crowd because people will notice one person saying one thing that’s outrageously different, than a group of people shouting the same thing over and over. I recently had this tattoo’d on to me. Start Of Time is having an idea so different and finding someone who shares the same thoughts and beliefs.
