In March 2014, Sherri DuPree-Bemis got a tattoo on her right forearm of a girl with pink hair and a Día de Muertos sugar skull face. The design was drawn by Mab Graves and tattooed by Joshua Whitten in Sherri’s hometown of Tyler, TX. There is an obvious resemblance between the tattooed character and Sherri herself — she has had her hair every color of the rainbow, but pink is one of her favorites. (more…)

Sherri DuPree-Bemis got a pair of characters tattooed on her arm in November 2013. On her upper arm is artist Brandi Milne’s interpretation of the classic children’s book character Humpty Dumpty.

Sherri DuPree-Bemis got this portrait on her left forearm in May 2013. It was her first tattoo to incorporate color. The girl in the tattoo is a character from her husband Max Bemis’ comic book series Polarity who was loosely based on Sherri herself. It was drawn by Jorge Coelho and tattooed by Jeremy Swan at Broken Art Tattoo. Max got a tattoo of his own at the same time featuring a different character from Polarity. (more…)

Emeli Sande has a self-portrait of artist Frida Kahlo tattooed on her left forearm. She explained her admiration of Kahlo to the Hackney Gazette: “It was the first time I had seen a woman being completely open and raw in her art, especially because they were self-portraits. She wasn’t glossing over the blemishes and you see what she went through as a woman and how strong she had to be. She gave me strength as a woman; and how she made ugly parts of herself really beautiful and very strong, that’s what inspired me.”
