Vanessa Hudgens has an tattoo of the om symbol (ॐ) across both of her hands — half on one pinky finger and half on the other. Om is a scared mantra in Hinduism and other Dharmic religions which is said at the beginning of prayer. Vanessa chose this unusual placement so that the tattoo comes together when she puts her hands in a praying or meditating position.

She told Access Hollywood that she got the tattoo “so I can spread positive energy” and that she can “bring it together to center [myself].”

Artist Bang Bang did the tattoo in September 2011. Her friend Ashley Tisdale got her foot tattoo at the same time.

Ellie Goulding has an arrow tattoo in white ink on her right index finger. She got the tattoo in June 2013, but she had been planning it for years before getting it done. Back in 2011 she filmed a video at Salvation Tattoo Lounge in South Beach Miami where she asked the artist to design her a few sketches of arrow tattoos. “I was thinking about getting an arrow — whether it be red, white, brown,” she said. “I’d love to see some different kind of sketches of different arrows. Ash Costello got the word “Dead” tattooed on the back of her hand in February 2014 by artist Danny Anchor. She loves zombies and vampires and often refers to herself as a “Living Dead Girl.”

In a video, she talks about the commitment she’s made by getting this and her other hand tattoos:

Going underneath the sleeve, as we called it, and getting onto my hand was a HUGE commitment.  As we joke, we say “there goes my bank job” or “there goes my corporate desk job.” Which obviously I was never going to have.  But getting a tattoo on your hand or neck or face solidifies like, that’s it — you are committed to being an artist and you are so screwed if you ever decide otherwise.

Ash Costello and Nikki Misery have matching broken heart tattoos on their hands with the words “I wished for you.” The heart is yellow with red blood drips on her thumb and it has an ornate design including filigree swirls and a stained glass pattern.

They got the tattoos back in 2011 when they were dating.  Nikki was then in a different band, Stitched Up Heart, and Ash was about to leave for Warped Tour with New Years Day.  Nikki later joined New Years Day and the two are very close friends even though they are no longer a couple.  They’ve even gotten more matching tattoos.

“My boyfriend has the other one. We realized I’m going to be away on tour for 5 more months. So we wanted to have something where it’s like a little piece of each other. So when we hold hands they connect.”

In November 2009, Ash Costello got a “hidden” Mickey Mouse tattoo on her right index finger which is a matching tattoo with her friends Sheena and Brooke. Ash is a huge fan of Disney and frequently visits Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.

“My family is a big Disneyland family. My great grandma, my great uncle, they all worked at Disneyland. My great uncle Eddie worked alongside Walt Disney developing the art form. My grandma was a can-can dancer. My mom worked there for a little bit, I worked there for a little bit. I just love it. I grew up like walking distance down the street. My family and I used to go to Disneyland like 3 times a week. I remember times when my mom would pull me out of school to go. So it just reminds me of being really happy at that time in my life. I can’t let it go.”
