In May 2012 Janel Parrish got the word “passion” tattooed on the inside of her right forearm. In an interview she explained “I have a lot of tattoos that mean a lot to me. One of my favorites is ‘passion’…it’s just words that really inspire me.”
Iggy Azalea covered up her old flower tattoo in November 2012 with a large portrait on her right forearm. It is the head of the Roman goddess Venus from Sandro Botticelli’s famous 1486 painting “The Birth of Venus.” She told Power 106:
It’s a tattoo of Botticelli “The Birth of Venus,” Disneyfied, where Venus de Milo is born in a seashell…and it covers my old ugly tattoo.
She calls it “Disneyfied” because it’s a cartoonish interpretation of Botticelli’s original piece. The eyes in particular have a sweet and innocent look with long lashes and no definition of the bottom.
Iggy Azalea has the inspirational motto “Trust Your Struggle” tattooed on her right forearm. It is a reminder to keep persevering even when things get tough, trusting that the struggle will pay off in the end.
This tattoo dates back to when she was living in Los Angeles and struggling to make it as a rapper. She had been in America for four years at this point but still hadn’t managed to sign a deal or put out any music. She was having constant financial troubles since her immigration status prevented her working a normal job. So when she saw the words “Trust Your Struggle” on a mural in Hollywood, she felt an immediate connection to the phrase — so much so that she got it tattooed that same day. She told MTV:
I got my “Trust Your Struggle” tattoo in 2010. I actually got it with another artist who was new coming out and the guy’s name is K. Roosevelt now. And I used to record with him, Kevin, in his garage studio apartment. I had no money and me and him were recording one day and I would cook him crepes in exchange for beats. We were walking down the star walk and I saw a mural that said “Pain Breeds Strength. Trust Your Struggle.” And I thought “I so identify with that at the moment, that’s how I feel.” I felt like it was a sign to me to say you should keep doing what you’re doing and you should trust the road bumps. Your dream is your dream. You should pursue it. So we kept walking, and I said “I’m going to get that tattooed on me right now!”…And we walked into a tattoo parlor…and I did it.
Iggy kept working on her music and eventually things started to go her way.
Iggy Azalea had a small pink and green rose tattoo on her right forearm at the start of her career, but she quickly grew bored with it. In November 2011 she tweeted about wanting to cover it but deciding not to: “I said I wanna cover up my rose tat cause I hate it and it was a mistake. He said don’t. Leave it to remind you no one is perfect, even you. <3”
But by 2012 she’d had enough. In August she wrote “Lately I’ve been thinking about getting some new tats and getting rid of some old ones…” And by November she had a concrete plan to get rid of it, tweeting “I’m getting a new tattoo this week. A cover up actually. I’m over this rose.” and “yes, the rose is outta here! its days are numbered! @whoiscoreydavis is going to kill my rose.”
The was rose covered up with a large portrait of the goddess Venus.
Lea Michele has a tattoo on the inside of her right wrist which says “I Believe.”
Lita Ford has a skull and dagger tattoo on her left upper arm.
Katy Perry got a tiny outline of a lotus flower tattooed on her wrist in January 2012.
Katy has not yet spoken to the press about this tattoo, so we can only speculate about its symbolism. Lotus flowers have many traditional meanings including purity, beauty, and detachment. Katy got the tattoo right around the time of her divorce from Russell Brand, so it would seem that the tattoo represents her newfound clarity after their separation. (more…)
Lita Ford has a tattoo on her right forearm that says “Black Widow,” the name of one of her songs.
Brenda Song got this rose tattoo on the inside of her right upper arm in August 2010.
She has been undergoing laser tattoo removal to get rid of most of her tattoos, and this one is the most obviously absent in her recent photos. Check out more photos of her removal progress below:
