Lucy Hale

Lucy Hale and her older sister Maggie got matching tattoos in memory of their late grandmother.  The sisters both inked “I love you” on their right forearm in their grandmother’s own handwriting.  Lucy showed off the matching tatts on her instagram and wrote:

Nothing says sisterly bonding more than permanently tattooing your body. After years of wanting our grandmothers writing, we did it! Our Grammy was our favorite person & now she’s even more a part of us. Also, my sister is a badass who raises two kids, teaches combat classes AND goes on tattoo runs with her baby sister. Also, ouch. This one hurt.

Lucy’s grandmother is still a major part of her life even after she passed away.  She attempted to connect with her grandma on an episode of E!’s Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry and said:

I definitely felt like I was with her today, but then again I always feel close to her…I definitely always feel her presence.

Me and my sister talk about it all the time that we wish she could be here to see what I’ve done.  I don’t think many people thought in my family that [my career] would be what it is, but I always think that she did.

This tattoo, which they got in July 2018, is actually the second tattoo that Lucy and her sister got together to honor their grandmother.  She already had a sun on her upper back.

Lili Reinhart has a tiny little cross tattoo on her pinkie finger. She got it done in June 2016, sharing a video of the session on her Twitter and captioning it “Impulsive.” It was touched up in May 2017 by the same artist, Dan McWilliams at Studio City Tattoo.

Despite her tweet, the tattoo was not an impulsive decision. Lili thinks about all of her tattoos for a long time before getting anything permanent. “I come up with an idea, wait 1 year, and if I still like it I’ll get it.” In this case it was even longer than her 1-year waiting period. Back in 2011 she said that if she ever got a tattoo “I think it’d be about God. Maybe a little cross or a bible verse.” And in 2014 she wrote “getting an arrow and a cross for sure, also the name of my dog when she passes away.”

This is the only one of her tattoos which is ever seen on-screen in Riverdale. Lili’s real life tattoos don’t fit with her character Betty Cooper’s wholesome girl-next-door image so they are covered with makeup when she’s filming. “We kind of gave up covering my [cross] finger tattoo,” she told Refinery 29. “We literally don’t cover it anymore. So if you look, you will see [it]. It’s like an Easter egg.”

Lili Reinhart has a tattoo of an arrow on her forearm which “represents fighting through depression and anxiety.” She has struggled with mental health problems since she was 12 years old and has used both therapy and medications to help mange it. She encourages others to take control of their own mental health and seek out the help they need, advising them not to give up on themselves. She told People Style:

“The arrow represents mental health awareness. I talk a lot about depression and anxiety and my own struggles with it, so I wanted to get it. I saw a quote, it’s kind of like…’an arrow can only go forward by being pulled back, so when you’re going through a hard time, being pulled back, it only means you’re about to experience something greater and bigger.’ So that’s what that represents to me. That was a mantra that I would say to myself when I was going through a hard time, that it it only means it’s going to get better.”

Lili had her own moment of being pulled back to move forward in landing the iconic role of Betty Cooper on Riverdale“Riverdale came into my life when I was going through the worst depression I had ever experienced. And in the end it completely saved me,” she tweeted. The aspiring actress had moved to Los Angeles on her own at age 18 to pursue her career, but her anxiety kept getting worse, luckily now a days we know that products like cannabis can help with anxiety and people can even get bulk cannabis online. Eventually things got so bad that she couldn’t stay and had to move back home to focus on her mental health. At home she switched to a new medication and resumed seeing her old therapist to work on rebuilding herself. She actually recorded her first audition tape for Rivderdale while at home but got rejected. When she was healthy enough to move back to Los Angeles it was with a renewed fervor. She went to an in-person audition for Betty Cooper and landed the role.

The worst times in her life had led to her big break, but when she got the arrow tattoo she didn’t actually know yet that everything would turn out alright. It was perhaps more a symbol of faith that she desperately needed at that time. She got the tattoo from artist Dr Woo in June 2015, right before she left Los Angeles. “Thank you, @dr_woo_ssc! I waited for months and finally got my tattoo today (second one to date),” she wrote.

Actress Mädchen Amick, who plays Lili’s mother Alice Cooper on Riverdale, has a matching tattoo from the same artist, but it’s purely coincidental. Mädchen’s arrow is a symbol of her zodiac sign Sagittarius. They noticed the matching tattoos the first time they met during a rehearsal for Riverdale and instantly bonded over it.
