Melanie Martinez has a tattoo on her left forearm of a Kewpie doll in a pink rabbit costume carrying an ice cream cone. She got this tattoo from Lauren Winzer in June 2015 along with three others. The design is inspired by two childhood memories, which she recalled to Fuse:
This one is based off of a couple experiences from when I was a kid. My first word was “mine.” It happened when I was in my walker in my driveway and my dad snatched an ice cream out of my hand and I just screamed “mine!”…like “Give me my ice cream! Why’d you take my ice cream?” And then there’s a picture of me outside dressed as a bunny…So I just did a little Kewpie baby dressed as a bunny, holding ice cream that’s melting, just to mix the two experiences.
Melanie Martinez got this tattoo of a yellow teddy bear on her arm in September 2014. (more…)
Neon Hitch has a tattoo of the bus and trailer that her family lived in when she was a child. The same image was used on the cover of “Happy Neon” mixtape. It’s on her right forearm next to her “Trailer Trash” tattoo. Artist Ron Cohen did the tattoo in June 2014.
Neon Hitch got the words “Trailer Trash” tattooed on her right arm in June 2013. Though the phrase is commonly used as a pejorative, Neon is proud of having grown up in a trailer.
Her family are gypsies and she was raised in a caravan, traveling from place to place. As a child she was trained as a trapeze artist. Her family never had any money, and Neon has said that although it was hard being poor, “it was a beautiful lifestyle growing up and getting to see the world.” (more…)
Carly Chaikin got this tattoo of the initials “LB” on the side of her finger in honor of her favorite childhood stuffed animal, a rabbit named “Lavender Bunny”
In November 2009, Ash Costello got a “hidden” Mickey Mouse tattoo on her right index finger which is a matching tattoo with her friends Sheena and Brooke. Ash is a huge fan of Disney and frequently visits Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.
“My family is a big Disneyland family. My great grandma, my great uncle, they all worked at Disneyland. My great uncle Eddie worked alongside Walt Disney developing the art form. My grandma was a can-can dancer. My mom worked there for a little bit, I worked there for a little bit. I just love it. I grew up like walking distance down the street. My family and I used to go to Disneyland like 3 times a week. I remember times when my mom would pull me out of school to go. So it just reminds me of being really happy at that time in my life. I can’t let it go.”
Carah Faye Charnow used to have the word “Childish” tattooed on the inside of her lip. It has since worn off and been replaced with a “PMA” tattoo. She explains: “Tattoo may have faded, but I’m still childish.”
