Julia Michaels has a tattoo on the side of her neck that says “I am ____ .” as a tribute to her journey of self-discovery. Since transitioning for being a behind-the-scenes songwriter to being a performer; she is happier, has fewer panic attacks, and feels that she has become a more authentic version of herself. She told Vevo:
I feel the most like myself that I ever have, now…I feel like every day I’m getting more and more comfortable in my skin and comfortable as an artist.
Following her divorce from Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose tweaked the “Cam” tattoo on her right thumb to say “Pain.” Cam was for the rappers’s legal name Cameron Jibril Thomaz. It’s not a perfect cover-up as the bottom of the letter “P” looks a bit strange, but at least the message is fitting to the situation.
This isn’t the first time she’s had to cover an exes name — the large roses on her arm conceal the name of a high school boyfriend.
Amber Rose maintains a good relationship with her ex-husband Wiz Khalifa, with whom she shares a son Sebastian Thomaz, but she didn’t want her face on her arm now that they’re no longer together. Rather than removing the tattoo, she returned to the original artist Bobby Serna in August 2017 to give it a new look. Serna transformed the face into that of Amber’s rockstar idol Slash from Guns N’ Roses. She already had a full-body portrait of Slash playing his guitar on her forearm.

Amber Rose got the iconic “Hollywood” sign tattooed along her left forearm in February 2017. Artist Nikko Hurtado used heavy black ink to draw the hills surrounding the sign, and left her skin showing through to define the letters.
Amber Rose completed work on her right arm sleeve with the addition of this locket on her wrist in December 2015. The hyper-realistic design includes shiny glass beads and a heart-shaped gold filigree pendant with a keyhole in the center.
Amber Rose got a tattoo on her right forearm in December 2015 of an open mouth blowing smoke and biting a cigarette. It blends in with the lipstick tattoo that she got from the same artist in a previous session.
Amber Rose added this tattoo of a tube of lipstick to her right arm sleeve in July 2015. A few months later she added a pair of lips above it, which seems to have been part of the plan all along.
In July 2017, Lena Dunham got a heart tattoo on her inner right inspired by New York doll artist Greer Lankton. The “Love Me” heart design appears on the chest of one of Lankton’s dolls. Lena showed off the new ink on her instagram, writing:
“So I cry, I pray and I beg… Greer Lankton’s last act on earth was this heart. These words were her mantra.”
Lankton used her own body image issues as the inspiration for her doll sculptures. The artist underwent gender confirmation surgery at the age of 21 and struggled with anorexia throughout her life. The personal nature of her art is what makes it so meaningful to Lena Dunham, who first saw Lankton’s work as a child. She told AnOther:
“I think Greer’s conflicted emotions about transitioning helped make her work just so emotionally resonant. We all feel that sense of being lost in and betrayed by our own bodies. She made it into poetry.”
Lena Dunham covered up the old “Staunch” tattoo on her right wrist with this ornamental cross-shaped design in early 2017.
