Miley Cyrus and her friend Cheyne Thomas gave each other homemade stick-and-poke smiley face tattoos in July 2014. The simple design is located on the inside of her left ankle. Judging for the pictures, it seems like Cheyne did a better job on Miley’s than she did on his!
Albanian pop singer Era Istrefi has a tattoo of a smiley face on her left hand between her thumb and forefinger. She shared a picture of the fresh ink, which was done by artist Klajdi Pipero in April 2015, and captioned it “You’re not fully dressed unless you wear a smile.”

Cassadee Pope’s second tattoo was a yellow smiley face on her right hand below her index finger. This tattoo is in honor of her deceased great grandfather, whom she called “happy” when she was young because she could not pronounce his real nick-name “pappy.” The performance which landed her band Hey Monday their record deal was on his birthday, and Cassadee got this tattoo as a result. In her own words: “The smiley face was from when we showcased for Columbia and it was on my great grandpa’s birthday. And I used to call him “pappy,” but when I was really young I couldn’t say “pappy” I called him “happy.” And we ended up getting signed, so I know he’s looking after us.” (more…)
Sierra Kusterbeck has a smiley face tattooed on the tip of her left pinky finger and three dots on the same finger as her triangle tattoo.
Ruby Rose has “LIFE” written on her left wrist in red and orange inks. Next to it are little symbols in colored ink including a purple smiley face, green heart, black star, and blue peace sign.
She later added a rainbow to the tattoo as a symbol of LGBT pride. In April 2012 she got a number “13” as part of a tradition in which tattoo parlors give discounted tattoos of the number 13 on every Friday the 13th.
Mila J has a tattoo on her left forearm of a smiley face and the phrase “why aren’t you smiling?”, which is something that was said by her deceased brother Miyagi Chilombo. Her sister Jhené Aiko has this saying on her wrist.
The tattoo faces inwards towards Mila, so it looks upside-down most of the time.
Kesha celebrated New Years Day by getting a stick-and-poke smiley face tattoo on January 1st 2014 for a “happy” new year. (more…)
