Ash Costello got this tattoo above her right elbow of Mickey Mouse with her mother’s name “Sandra D” in July 2010. She writes “Mickey of course! Old-school pie eyes & my mom’s name, Sandra D. Innocent & virtuous, she raised me right.” She has said that her mom before more accepting of her inkings after this one.
In July 2010, Ash Costello got this tattoo of crooked piano keys on her right forearm. The design comes from the cover art of Cursive’s album The Ugly Organ, an album which she says “changed the way I wrote music.”
In November 2009, Ash Costello got a “hidden” Mickey Mouse tattoo on her right index finger which is a matching tattoo with her friends Sheena and Brooke. Ash is a huge fan of Disney and frequently visits Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.
“My family is a big Disneyland family. My great grandma, my great uncle, they all worked at Disneyland. My great uncle Eddie worked alongside Walt Disney developing the art form. My grandma was a can-can dancer. My mom worked there for a little bit, I worked there for a little bit. I just love it. I grew up like walking distance down the street. My family and I used to go to Disneyland like 3 times a week. I remember times when my mom would pull me out of school to go. So it just reminds me of being really happy at that time in my life. I can’t let it go.”
Ash Costello has little red broken heart tattoos behind both of her ears. She got them on a whim some time around 2008.
“I got these on tour. We were playing at this club in Colorado called the Black Sheep. I was bored and there was a tattoo parlor next door, so I walked in and I said ‘I’m in a band, I’m not from here, if anyone wants to tattoo me for free, have at it.’ And a guy volunteered.”
These tattoos are now covered by her bat wings collar tattoo.
Ash Costello has a flower tattoo on the top of her right shoulder. It’s done in shades of gray ink with a black outline around the edges.
Ash Costello has a banner on her upper arm with the words “You Love Carries On,” inspired by the Melee song “Love Carries On.”
One of Ash Costello’s oldest tattoos is the writing on her right wrist which says “Caviar.” In a tweet she explained “it says Caviar :) cause I got class.” It seems like she might regret this one a little. In a tweet to a friend she wrote “cuz I decided to tattoo the word “caviar” on my wrist & thought that would be a GOOD idea?”
Ash Costello used to have a shaded gray om symbol tattoo on her right elbow, but she has since covered it with her pumpkin tattoo.
Ash Costello’s first tattoo was of a music note on the inside of her right elbow. She chose a round whole note rather than the more commonly tattooed eighth note. This tattoo was covered by the large crow that she got on this arm in 2011.
My first tattoo you can’t see anymore. It was right here underneath the crow. The second I turned eighteen — that night I went out with my all friends, got a tattoo, woke my mother up at 3 am and was like “mom, I got a tattoo. I did it.” She said “No you didn’t, you’re lying.” Like “No, I did.” Poor thing. And it’s been a running routine ever since. Every time I get a tattoo. But it stopped when I finally got my mom’s name tattooed on me. So I figured she couldn’t get mad at me any more and it totally worked.
