Albanian pop singer Era Istrefi has a tattoo of a smiley face on her left hand between her thumb and forefinger. She shared a picture of the fresh ink, which was done by artist Klajdi Pipero in April 2015, and captioned it “You’re not fully dressed unless you wear a smile.”

Justine Skye has a tattoo on the back of her right upper arm of two face — one sad and one happy. “Laugh now Cry later,” writes artist Soto Gangster. Emotive faces are one of Soto’s signature designs and she has done similar designs for many clients. Justine got this tattoo in November 2016 in the same session as a barbed wire tattoo on her finger.
Melanie Martinez has a few tattoos of drawings by Masami Yanagida, but this one on her left calf was the first. It’s a little girl jumping in the air but her head is cut off and roses are spilling out of her neck. The girl’s blouse says “For Joy” as a reference to the expression “jump for joy.” Melanie went to artist Gary Royal in October 2015 who turned the drawing ink permanent body art. Asami Zdrenka got Japanese writing tattooed along her collarbone on the left side of her chest in May 2016. It says “平和情熱幸福” which means “peace passion happiness.”
Sierra Kusterbeck has a smiley face tattooed on the tip of her left pinky finger and three dots on the same finger as her triangle tattoo.
Scout Taylor-Compton has three separate quotes tattooed on her left shoulder blade. She started out with just the top two lines, which are lyrics from the Mumford & Sons song “Awake My Soul.” They say “In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die. Where you invest your love, you invest your life.”
Next she added the inspirational phrase “anyone who thinks sunshine is pure happiness / has never danced in the rain.”
The final quotation that she got tattooed is “Darlin’, forever is a long, long time / and time has a way of changin’ things” which comes from the Disney Movie The Fox and the Hound.
Juliet Simms is a huge fan of The Beatles and has two tattoos of their lyrics. About this tattoo, she tells: “It says ‘Happiness is a Warm Gun,’ which is one my favorite Beatles songs. I know what it’s about [heroin] and I don’t do that, but it is one my favorite Beatles songs.” Next to the lyrics is a little shotgun.
