Iggy Azalea has a tattoo on the side of her right foot that says “Colour me Free.” It is a message of freedom as well as the title of British singer-songwriter Joss Stone’s 2009 album. Iggy is a big fan of hers and once tweeted “I used to stan for Joss Stone. That voice!”
She also relates to Joss Stone as someone who crosses the lines of race and nationality in her music. In response to criticism that her Australian accent is absent in her rapping, she cited Joss Stone and Adele as examples of artists whose English accents aren’t heard when they sing. And though Iggy didn’t say it outright, both are white artists who draw heavily from black soul music.
