Artist Tye Harris’s final additions to Skylar Grey’s woodland-inspired full sleeve tattoo include this snake on the inside of her upper right arm, just above the elbow.
Skylar Gray has a large tattoo on her right thigh based on art nouveau illustrator Aubrey Beardsley’s 1893 drawing “The Peacock Skirt.” The original illustration (pictured below) is cut off with a hard line at the bottom, so tattoo artist Joshua Lord added his own creative flair to the design by changing the outline into a beautiful mermaid tail shape.
The tattoo celebrates Skylar’s involvement in the Suicide Squad movie soundtrack. She contributed two songs: “Wreak Havoc” which she performed herself and Kehlani’s “Gangsta” which she co-wrote. Fellow songwriter Jacob Luttrell drew something on her thigh on the night when they began writing “Gangsta” together. The doodle was either a butterfly or a fish — neither of them can quite remember — but this piece of art evokes the feeling of both.
Dua Lipa first showed off the “PATIENCE” tattoo on her left hand in an April 2017 instagram photo, writing “Patience is key.” In an interview she explained that the tattoo is a constant reminder for her to stay calm and be patient.
Dua Lipa has the initials “R” and “G” tattooed on her left wrist for her two siblings Rina and Gjin. Dua is oldest in the family, her sister Rina is the middle child, and her brother Gjin is the youngest.
CupcakKe got a large henna-inspired tattoo on the back of her right arm in January 2017. “The pain ? I took for this ?,” she wrote on her instagram.
Kirstin Maldonado got a tattoo of a rose on the side of her right index finger in July 2017. It is inspired by the character Rose from the movie Titanic.
Artist Romeo Lacoste documented the process on his YouTube channel (video below). Rather than drawing the rose on a piece of paper and transferring it to her finger, her designed the image by drawing directly on Kirstin’s finger with a marker and then going over it with his tattoo gun. This freehand approach ensures that the tattoo fits perfectly on the body.
Romeo is known for his rose designs and Kirstin actually reached out to him on Twitter when he was looking to film a client getting tattooed. “I just had a genius idea. I should do a YouTube video of a time lapse of one of my mini freehand roses. That be sick,” he tweeted. To which Kirstin replied “I volunteer.”
Rapper CupcakKe inked a tribute to her stage name on her hand in March 2017 with this large cupcake tattoo by artist Paul Picasso.
CupcakKe has a henna tattoo covering the back of her right hand, wrist, and fingers. She got the original tattoo from artist Rod Tha God in September 2016 but later expanded it to cover her whole forearm.
CupcakKe has a tattoo of a music note on the side of her chest. Originally it was just an outline, but in January 2017 she had the music note properly shaded. She also added to the design with smaller notes and a treble clef. “Got my music note fixed on my chest/shoulder FINALLY,” she wrote on her instagram. (more…)
Asia Argento got a tattoo of a peony on her inner thigh in May 2016. This full-color traditional tattoo is a different style than most of her ink, so she went to a different artist: Tokyo-based tattooer Akilla who specializes in traditional Japanese style tattoos. She traded tattoos with the artist, giving him a small tattoo on the back of his wrist.
