A favorite outfit or mix and match?

Cassadee Pope | Hey Monday

When I heard Cassadee Pope say in an interview that she tries not to wear the same outfit twice on stage, it really stuck out to me since I’m used to blogging about Hayley Williams, who often wears the same outfit every night for a whole tour.

Cassadee does wear the same pieces multiple times – she wore the same faux leather shorts with different tops – but she mixes and matches pieces so that each outfit is unique. She has a very defined style, and she keeps a cohesive look by wearing a lot of pieces that are similar to each other. For most of Hey Monday’s fall tour, she wore bodysuits with high-waisted shorts or skirts.

Hayley tends to wear more expensive clothes, but she gets a lot of use out of them. Some fans got upset that Hayley had changed from her previously thrifty ways when she bought a pair of leopard pants costing nearly $200 (pictured on the right), but she wore the same pair of pants virtually every night on Paramore’s spring 2010 Pacific Rim and United States tours – about 4 months of touring in the same pants. So even though Cassadee shops at more affordable stores like Forever 21 and American Apparel, her tour wardrobe probably ends up costing more. Whose wardrobe was a better investment is a matter of opinion.

Which fashion philosophy are you? One favorite piece or a mix and match wardrobe? I’m a bit of both, but I’m more like Cassadee. Recently my go-to outfit is a button-up shirt with ruffles at the neck under a v-neck cardigan, and I have a lot of each that I mix and match. But I tend to wear the same pair of acid wash jeans and all-black Converse high-tops with everything.

  1. This post really caught my eye. Things like this make me realize what style is to some artists. Makes me wonder if people like Hayley don’t care on wearing the same thing everyday on tour and make other people think that they’re just getting a repeat show from the night before to where its not gonna make it a fun concert experience(and yes, clothes sometimes do affect performances for people).

  2. I definitely prefer Cassadee’s way of dressing.. I love the style element of live concert, and of musicians, and so I’d much rather see a singer in something new and interesting rather than the same old outfit. I mean, it’s good to have a mix of high quality staples and cheaper fun things, but if you’re touring, your stuff will probably get torn or stained anyway, and four months of wearing the same pants nearly every day will wear them out quick, no matter how much you paid for them. I think LIGHTS is a good mix of the two, because she wears different things, but they’re usually like American Apparel or Urban Outfitters – medium price and quality. Whatever’s most comfortable for the girls is best, really, but that’s just my preference.
