Christina Grimmie git her first tattoo in March 2014. It says “all is vanity,” which comes from a passage in Ecclesiastes — her favorite book in the Bible.

The full passage from the King James Version reads:
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labor which he taketh under the sun?
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full: unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
8 All things are full of labor; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

  1. Wow! Your tattoo is just what I was looking for to illustrate my blog post on vanity. It’s fabulous. I hope you’re still happy with it.
    Thank you!

  2. Oh man. This tattoo. I got it written on my arm in the same font and spot, but smaller. When she passed away, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I still can’t. I saw a video from all the times she talked about this tattoo and listening to reasoning behind it it just stuck out to me. I got this tattoo not because Christina had it, but because I want to remember to keep God first in all that I do. I never wanna lose sight of our forever home in Heaven while I’m trying to live a life for Him on earth. I got the exact font because of Christina. Because she made such an impact in my life, she inspired and continues to inspire me to make music, to improve my voice and to live my dream. I wouldn’t be who I am today without her. So getting it exactly like hers is a way to remember who she was and what she did for me. It’s like a piece of her lives on through this tattoo and Idk that’s beautiful I think. :)

    • That is so beautiful, Lisa!!!! God bless you!!! It has been a very difficult four months for all of us. Christina was a Legend when she was born. A absolutely phenomenal singer/musician/songwriter and if that was not enough Christina was a incredible human being. I Never had the “”Honor” of meeting her or seeing her in concert and I will always regret that. I am passionate about music. Music and my faith in God is my passion in life, and Christina made a huge impact on my life too. I could not be more heartbroken that she was taken from us from that Insane maniac. But, a big part of her and her music, and everything about her will have a place in my heart forever until I meet God, my family and Christina in heaven one day face to face. What a glorious day that will be!!! I’ll Always Love You Christina!! There was NO ONE that ever lived that was SO LOVED and now SO MISSED!!

  3. How sad that she is gone now :( However we can take solace from the fact she is singing with the angels in heaven..

  6. hey christina i watch you on the voice and i know you where a christian and i am too well the Bible says no tattoos and you have one soo i say try to take it off

    • Jill, relax. That verse stems from the pagan ritual that non believers had that when a family member died, they would write their names in inks with the belief that they would “gain” the power of that deceased member. Look it up. When you read the Bible, you must look at ALL aspects; who is saying it, who’s it being said to why are they saying it, when is the time and culture I reference to what is being said, how it came to be, etc. if you wanted to continue with your logic, the Bible also says to not wear clothes of mixed textiles; which means if the shirt it any other clothes you have contain a mix of cotton, polyester, spandex, etc, you would be going against The Word too. However, that’s not the reason it says that, but rater, is a representation of being equally yoked. Always have an answer just like The Word says. God bless,
      AJ
