Melanie Fiona has a heart tattoo on her left wrist which symbolizes strength and courage. It’s colored purple because of the Purple Heart medals given out by the United States military to wounded soldiers.

She told The Boombox “I got both of my tattoos in moments where I felt that I had grown. My purple heart was right after I finished the Kanye West tour. I was getting ready to release the first single and I had gone through a really bad breakup. What I realized in that moment was that I was stronger than I thought I was in the past. I lived through those experiences, both monumental and dark, and picked myself up and did great things. The purple heart is my symbol of courage and it’s a reminder that I don’t need to give into the weak moments that face me.”

In May 2011, Sherri DuPree-Bemis had her own drawing of Texas turned into a tattoo by Alice Kendall at Infinity Tattoo in Portland, OR. There is a moon smiling over a house which is a reference to the Eisley lyrics “mr. moon shines down on my home” from the song “Mr. Moon.” The tattoo expresses her love for her home state–the DuPree family lives in Tyler, TX and Sherri now owns a house there with her husband Max Bemis. Ariana Grande’s first tattoo was an outline of a heart on her toe. She got the tattoo in April 2012 while recording her debut album. Its purpose is to serve as a reminder of this exciting time in her life. She also has a song called “Tattooed Heart” which is one of her favorite songs that she’s written.

She writes: “Got my 1st tattoo in the studio with @Skysnuts (LMFAO) while we were recording a really fun duet which you’ll all hear soon! (not tattooed heart).. This year has been 1 of the happiest and most enlightening years for me and I felt like I wanted to do something special to remind me of this time….writing my 1st album, working with my castmates & best friends on victorious, being young, having fun and being surrounded by love.. so..I wanted to do something permanent to remind me to always be grateful and not take anything for granted so.. I got a little tattoo. :)”
