Ash Costello's photoshoot for Lip Service

The latest episode of Ash Costello “Rockonista” web series takes us shopping with her at Lip Service’s Los Angeles warehouse. Lip Service has lines catered to many different alternative subcultures including lolita, cyber, and industrial clothing; but most of Ash’s picks come from the “Black Steam” collection of Victorian steampunk-inspired clothes.

Ash explains this outfit:

It’s very steampunk-inspired. Steampunk has been around for a while kind of in the underground, and I feel like right now it’s just starting to make it into the mainstream. Lip Service has really found a creative way to take steampunk in everyday wear — something you could wear to school, or to clubs, concerts, DisneyLand like I would. And I love it. I love that [the skirt] has the key detail, it’s very steampunk, and the brown distressed leather. This is something that I would wear all the time. And to top it all off I have my Sideshow by the Sea necklace. I love bats and anything gothy and dark like that is just awesome to me. So it pulls the whole thing together.

What she’s wearing:
All of Ash’s clothes are from Lip Service. She wears the BlackList Black Lace Top ($41.50) with the Step in Time Underbust Top ($98.00) over it. Her skirt is the Step in Time Lace Layered Skirt ($65.00) and the tights are the Ripped Net Pantyhose ($9.00). Her bat necklace is the La Mia Bella Morte Necklace from Sideshow by the Sea ($35.00).

Our favorite creep Ash Costello just got some swag from the aptly-named brand Kreepsville 666. Their clothes and accessories feature all sorts of creepy anatomy like eyeballs, bones, brains, and hearts. Ash is wearing the Red Skeleton Tunic Dress, a fitted t-shirt dress with a red skeleton drawing. It’s available for $38.00 at Kreepsville (£30.00 in the UK), $40.00 at Dolls Kill, $50.00 at Sourpuss, and £29.99 at Rocky Horrors. Her Pretty Polly Suspender Tights are $25.00 at Dillards and other stores.

Ash Costello's "Rockonista" web series for Hollywood Waste

New Years Day’s record label Hollywood Waste have started a web series called “Rockonista” where singer Ashley Costello takes you inside her world of goth style. In this episode, Ash goes to a thrift store and shows how – with a little creativity – you can make fun and unique clothes for cheap. “Don’t be afraid to go and rummage through, you can find some really amazing stuff,” she says. “Even though I had to go through a lot of Nos, it was worth it to find a few Yeses. You never know what cool stuff you’ll find at a thrift store.”

Using only scissors and safety pins, she transforms overalls into shorts and a simple floor-length dress into an amazing bustle dress. “I really love safety pins on the outside,” she explains. “There’s something really cool and punk and DIY about showing safety pins.” Part of the thrift store game is being able to see potential in items that you might not wear as-is. “When you go thrift shopping you have to have a vision, and see what you can do with what you find,” Ash says.

Ash explains that she also shops in the Halloween costume section. “They could end up being really cool, you never know. If you have the courage to wear them, I think it’s awesome.” Ash definitely has that courage — she wore a zombie bride costume and gory prosthetic wounds throughout New Years Day’s recent tour with Blood On The Dance Floor.

Ash Costello got her New Years Eve party on with the Hello Party Kitty Parody Shirt from Andrew W.K. ($19.99). The shirt depicts Hello Kitty with a nose bleed mimicking the cover of Andrew W.K.’s 2001 album I Get Wet and has the name of his hit single “Party Hard.” Andrew W.K. wore the t-shirt himself while performing on the 2010 Warped Tour.

screencap from New Years Day's summer update video

It’s no secret that Ash Costello loves vampires – and zombies, and fake blood – but this simple graphic of a smiley face with crossed out eyes and vampire fangs is surprisingly cutesy compared to her usual gore. It’s from H&M, though she’s had it for a few months so it might not be available in stores anymore. It is not listed on the US site at all, and it’s pictured on the UK site but not available in that design.

PS. The tattoo on her neck is a fake tattoo of New Years Day’s mechanical heart logo, but the sleeve is all real. You can check out the Ash Costello tattoo page to see all of her tattoos.

Sure, this may be a Halloween costume. But that hasn’t stopped New Years Day singer and self-proclaimed “living dead girl” Ash Costello from wearing the “Marry Me Dead” Zombie Bride Costume ($59.99) on tour. And I can’t blame her, the costume comes from punk and gothic clothing brand Lip Service and it’s certainly stylish with it’s short, ripped-up hem.
