Rebirth Tattoos

Federica Pellegrini

Federica Pellegrini has a prominently displayed phoenix tattoo running up the left side of her neck. The Arabian Phoenix is a symbol of rebirth from ashes and change and she did this tatoo back on her 17 years when she moved from Verona to Milan.

    Juliet Simms

Juliet Simms got a large tattoo on her upper left thigh of an eagle in flight from artist Robert Atkinson in October 2014.  The eagle is symbol of the ascension of Christ. She wrote on instagram: “Resurrect. New tattoo by the incredible @robertatkinson_tattoo 🙌 I love it Robert thank you!!🙏 Check out his tattoo shop on Ventura in Sherman Oaks! ‘Ten Thousand Waves Tattoo Gallery’ #eagle #tattoos #spiritanimal #robertatkinson #tenthousandwaves”

    Kesha

Kesha got a tattoo of the planet Saturn on her left palm from artist Sean From Texas in November 2015. The tattoo symbolizes that Kesha is going through the “return of Saturn” period of her life.  The planet Saturn occupies the same place in the sky every 29.5 years, and horoscopic astrology believes that it significant when Saturn returns to same place in the sky that it was at the time when a person was born. It is thought that years surrounding the first return of Saturn are when a person becomes fully an adult. This period lasts roughly from age 27 to 31. Kesha, who was born on March 1, 1987, was 28 years old when she got the tattoo.

    Ariel Winter

Ariel Winter has a tattoo of roman numerals “X.III.MMXII” (which means “10.3.2012”) inside her left elbow. Ariel told ET: “This is October 3, 2012 which is the day that I moved in with my sister. It kind of started a new chapter of life for me, so it was really important.” Since then, Ariel has become legally emancipated from her abusive mother.

Her sister Shanelle decided to get the same tattoo to match Ariel’s in November 2016, while Ariel was getting a new tattoo of a spade on her wrist. Shanelle showed off their matching tattoos and wrote “1st tattoo matching sister one of the most important people in my life with a matching tattoo of a very special date.”

    Alison Pill

Alison Pill has a tattoo on the left side of her ribcage that says “Be melting snow.” It is inspired by the Persian poet Rumi, who wrote “Be melting snow. Wash yourself of yourself.” It means that you can cleanse yourself and start anew without help from others.

      Katy Perry

      Katy Perry lotus tattoo

Katy Perry got a tiny outline of a lotus flower tattooed on her wrist in January 2012.

Katy has not yet spoken to the press about this tattoo, so we can only speculate about its symbolism. Lotus flowers have many traditional meanings including purity, beauty, and detachment. Katy got the tattoo right around the time of her divorce from Russell Brand, so it would seem that the tattoo represents her newfound clarity after their separation. (more…)

      Margaret Cho

Margaret Cho’s first tattoo was a large piece tattoo featuring snakes and flowers which starts in the center of her lower back and wraps around both sides of her hips. She had the tattoo done by famous tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy in 2005 at the age of 37.  Tattoos have been Margaret’s way of dealing with aging and learning to love her body, though her admiration for tattoos started when she was young.  It’s also a way for her to take ownership of her own skin.

“Having lived under such a regime for so many years, I am finally free, and for once in my life, actually able to do something with my body that I have always wanted to do, because I feel safe enough to. Nobody is going to judge me for wanting to wear a beautiful piece of art on my skin. I will not allow it. This is my body, and this is my body with tattoos,” she blogged.  “My life is all new, with this brand new body, and the chance to start over. It is a fantastic rebirth, and I am so glad to be here.”

Margaret admits that she is a bit scared of snakes, though she admires them. “Snakes are magnificent creatures, like nothing else on earth. I don’t know why I am afraid of them. Possibly because they are so different, mysterious and unknowable, unpredictable. But on my back, they will be my protectors, my guardians, my cheerleaders and my friends.”
