Ash Costello has a tattoo on her right forearm of two hands holding a heart and crown. The design comes from traditional Irish Claddagh rings. The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty. Claddagh rings have historically been used as engagement and wedding rings, and Ash got the tattoo shortly after her March 2018 engagement to Jimmy Trigger.

What I’m really, really jonesing for is a big neck tattoo. Very soon I’m going to be getting bat wings that are going to come up underneath [pointing to the sides of her chin]. Real big — I’m not just talking the back of the neck — I’m talking the whole thing. It’s a very serious commitment to get your neck tattooed.

Ash Costello got the word “Dead” tattooed on the back of her hand in February 2014 by artist Danny Anchor. She loves zombies and vampires and often refers to herself as a “Living Dead Girl.”

In a video, she talks about the commitment she’s made by getting this and her other hand tattoos:

Going underneath the sleeve, as we called it, and getting onto my hand was a HUGE commitment.  As we joke, we say “there goes my bank job” or “there goes my corporate desk job.” Which obviously I was never going to have.  But getting a tattoo on your hand or neck or face solidifies like, that’s it — you are committed to being an artist and you are so screwed if you ever decide otherwise.

Ash Costello took hold of a tattoo gun and gave herself this “Blow Me Up” tattoo on her arm in February 2014.  The phrase comes from the DC Comics villain Harley Quinn, who says “I’m having a bad day. I’m sick of people trying to shoot me, run me over, and blow me up!” For Ash, the phase represents perseverance:

My tattoo says “blow me up” with a red and green heart. I’ve always felt like a Harley Quinn just looking for her Joker, that mad love, 2 villains, it means and no matter how much you try and blow me up, I’ll always keep coming back. So go ahead and blow me up then, but I’m still here, causing trouble, just waiting to cause some trouble with him instead.

A good friend of mine Baba came up to me and offered me a free tattoo for Warped Tour. It’s like the biggest thing ever. Ash Costello’s first tattoo was of a music note on the inside of her right elbow.  She chose a round whole note rather than the more commonly tattooed eighth note. This tattoo was covered by the large crow that she got on this arm in 2011.

The second I turned eighteen — that night I went out with my all friends, got a tattoo, woke my mother up at 3 am and was like “mom, I got a tattoo. I did it.” She said “No you didn’t, you’re lying.” Like “No, I did.” Poor thing.  And it’s been a running routine ever since.  Every time I get a tattoo.  But it stopped when I finally got my mom’s name tattooed on me.
