Character Tattoos

Kehlani

The two figures on Kehlani’s inner thighs represent a scene from the movie Pulp Fiction where the characters enter a twist dance competition. On her right leg wearing a white shirt is Mia Wallace, played by Uma Thurman, and on her left leg wearing a suit is Vincent Vega, played by John Travolta. Kehlani can move her legs to make the two tattoos dance.

She got the tattoo in July 2016 and shared a picture on instagram which she captioned with a quote from the movie: “I want that trophy. so dance good.”

Melanie Martinez

Melanie Martinez has a tattoo on her left calf of the children’s book character Madeline along with a quote from the series.  In the stories, Madeline lives in a Catholic boarding school in Paris.  She and her schoolmates always say a prayer before they eat their meals: “We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all, we love each other.” It is a reminder that the people in our lives are the most important thing.  Melanie included this prayer in her tattoo, which features Madeline holding a loaf of bread and is surrounded by little pink hearts. It was inked by artist Nat G at Good Luck Tattoo in January 2016.

Melanie Martinez got a pair of tattoos on the back of her calves by artist Shon Lindauer in October 2015 featuring two characters from the 1936 Disney Silly Symphonies short film Elmer Elephant.  In the cartoon, Elmer picks flowers and brings them to Tillie Tiger for her birthday party.  The tattoo on Melanie’s right leg shows Elmer looking bashful after giving Tillie the bouquest.  Elmer is made fun of by the other animals for his long nose and tries to hide it in order to fit in, but Tillie is nice to him.  Elmer eventually saves the day by rescuing Tillie from her burning house using his nose as a hose.
