Elbow Tattoos

Noah Cyrus

This sad little smiley face is one of four tattoos that Noah Cyrus got during a single session with artist Dakota Gomez in August 2018. She already had a similar tattoo on her wrist featuring a happy face with X’s for eyes. This time she got a frowning face with a tear drop below its eye.

Noah’s own sadness comes through in the new music that she’s been writing.  She told Access:

I wanted to let people see where I am in my life right now as a person. Like how I deal with hella anxiety, and I get depression, and I get upset, and I have feelings, and I’m alone on tour sometimes, and I’m sad.

Lucy Hale

Lucy Hale got a tattoo of an elephant on her right arm during a trip to Cambodia in May 2018. She and her Life Sentence co-star Elliot Knight visited the country with the charity organization Ripple Effect and got to visit children with special medical needs in addition to seeing all the beautiful ancient temples. Lucy had some crazy experiences during her trip including eating fried tarantulas that she purchased at a local street market, which she says taste like potato chips. She wrote on her instagram:

Peace out Cambodia. – Every once in a while certain experiences and people open your eyes. Grateful for the remarkable time I had & for the beautiful children we met. Being a very small part of something this extraordinary is something that will stay with me for life & I can’t wait to be back to see the kids next year. And to my new friends- I love you guys!

It doesn’t seem like Lucy got to meet any elephants during her brief trip, though Elliot continued on to Thailand after she left and had his own elephant adventure, but surely she saw lots of elephant carvings in the buildings she visited.  The Asian Elephant is now an endangered species but was prevalent through Cambodia in the past and is a common motif in the country’s art and architecture.

She got the little elephant on her elbow inked at Bayon Tattoo, which is named after the Bayon temple in Angkor Wat and is located only a few miles from the historic site.  This parlor does some of its tattoos with the traditional Cambodian bamboo technique, but Lucy opted to get hers with a modern tattoo gun. She showed pictures of the process and the result on her instagram and captioned it:

Tattoos everywhere I go 🐘

Other members of the tour group got their own matching elephant tattoos on various body parts.

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa honors both of her parents with this “MUM + DAD” tattoo on the back of her right elbow.  The touching tribute was inked on February 8, 2018 while she was on tour in Los Angeles, CA.  Her parents, mother Anesa Lipa and father Dukagjin Lipa, were both on tour with her at the time.  Dua already had the initials of her two siblings, Rina and Gjin, on her wrist so now she has tattoos for her whole family.

Noah Cyrus

Noah Cyrus has a tiny “X” tattoo on her left elbow. Many people assumed that it was a tribute to deceased rapper XXXTentacion, who she collaborated with on her song “Again,” however she actually had this tattoo a month before his death.

It’s a matching tattoo that she shares with her boyfriend Tanner Drayton, though we aren’t sure why they chose the “X” design.  Noah’s favorite tattoo artist Lauren Winzer inked the couple in May 2018.  Rather than using her tattoo gun, she hand-poked them with a needle and ink.

    Chiara Ferragni

Chiara Ferragni has a tattoo on the back of her arm which says “VIAJANTE” meaning “traveler.” The jet-setting fashion blogger chose to have the tattoo written in Portuguese because she got it while in Brazil (though viajante also means traveler in Spanish). She visited artist Jorge Machado at Ipanema Ink during a 48-hour stay in Rio de Janeiro in July 2013.  A friend who was with her got the same word on her ribs.

    Chiara Ferragni

Chiara Ferragni got her third tattoo in April 2011.  The phrase “Ode Alla Vita,” meaning “Ode to Life” in her native Italian, is the title of a poem by Brazilan writer Martha Medeiros (though it has often been misattributed to Chilean poet Pablo Neruda). She wrote on her blog:

My third tattoo: the sentence “Ode alla vita” on the right arm, to always remind me how important it is to live at our best each day, and to celebrate a friend who used to share with me the passion for this poem.
