Elbow Tattoos

Lauren Jauregui

Lauren Jauregui got this Roman numeral tattoo on her right elbow in August 2015. It says “XXVII” which represents the number 27.

She considers 27 to be her lucky number. It is the date of two major life events: she was born on June 27, 1996 and her musical group Fifth Harmony was formed on July 27, 2012 during the second season of The X Factor USA. Fifth Harmony named their sophomore album 7/27 after the date they were formed and released the album on May 27, 2016 to fit with the 27 theme. Lauren sees the number 27 in other places as well: “Everytime I’ve looked at the clock today it’s been __:27 weird,” she once tweeted.

Along with a photo of the tattoo, Lauren posted a link to a numerology website which explains that people born on the 27th day of the month are believed to be “compassionate, highly intelligent and kind…true humanitarians, natural teachers, healers and counselors.”

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa got her first tattoo in January 2015. The writing on the inside of her right elbow says “Sunny Hill” as a tribute to her home in Kosovo. Sunny Hill is the English translation of the Bregu i Diellit district in Kosovo’s capital city of Pristina.

Although Dua Lipa was born in London, both of her parents are Kosovar-Albanian. She moved to Pristina, Kosovo with her family when she was 13. A few years later she returned to London to pursue her singing career.

“Now repping my real ends #Sunnyhill “BREGU I DIELLIT” thank you @seanfromtexas for my first tattoo! #LA” she wrote on instagram.

    Lynn Gunn

Lynn Gunn has a Latin tattoo on her left elbow says “EID MAR.” It is an abbreviation for “Eidibus Martiis” a Latin phrase meaning “on the Ides of March.” The Ides is the middle of each month in the ancient Roman calendar, with the Ides of March falling on March 15th.  The Ides of March was a religious holiday, but is most famous as the date that Roman dictator Julius Caesar was assassinated on in 44 BC. The phrase “EID MAR” began appearing on Roman coins following Ceaser’s assassination.

For Lynn, the Ides of March has personal meaning because her birthday is on March 15th.

    Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus got matching tattoos of her Happy Hippie Foundation smiley face logo with a group of pals in November 2016.  Artist Daniel Winter stopped by Miley’s Los Angeles house to do the inkings — then Miley grabbed the tattoo gun and gave him his own.

Among the group of friends who got the tattoo was an Oklahoma City vintage dealer known as The Junk Fairy who has sourced many of Miley’s whacky outfits. She writes:

Other surreal moment…When Miley asks you to get a matching tattoo! My first! Even at almost age 61! Seven of us got matching tiny @happyhippiefdn smiley faces-that she designed!😀😀😀 @winter_stone did several at Miley’s amazing house. #notdrunk #honored 💉💉 More too not in photo!! #bondedforlife 💛💛💛 #hopefulhippies

Miley’s super-tall dancer Amazon Ashley, close friend Katy Weaver, and photographer Jonce were also part of the group.

The design that they all got is a smiley face with two letter “H”s for eyes.  It is the logo for the Happy Hippie Foundation, a non-profit which Miley Cyrus founded to help combat homelessness among LQBTQ youth.

    Miley Cyrus

This tattoo of a tooth on Miley Cyrus’s right elbow is one of many matching tattoos which she shares with The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne and his girlfriend Katy Weaver, who are two of Miley’s closest friends.  All three got their tattoo in April 2015 but each on different body parts.

Wayne’s version of the tattoo is on the top of his foot and has a letter “K” in the center which is presumably for Katy.  It’s placed next to a tattoo of Miley’s “MC” smiley face logo.  Katy’s is on the back of her upper left arm.
