Sierra Kusterbeck’s Hair

Sierra Kusterbeck keeps her hair its natural brown color, but adds highlights in blonde, light brown, and reddish shades. She accessorizes her hair with feathers, beads, randomly placed dread locks, and small braids. Sierra says: “the story on the dreads is our second tour ever was with a band called Oh Sleeper. Their guitarist Shane had dreads and I got him to put some all throughout my hair and we would add trinkets and beads. One day I found this gorgeous feather & stuck it in one of my dreads. Now it’s this huge trend and I’m flattered that so many people have caught onto it.”

Sierra’s hair is generally very messy, especially on tour when showers are hard to come by. She told Self magazine “I’ve learned, don’t try to wear your hair, let your hair wear you. The more you force it, the more it retaliates against you. It isn’t necessary for me to wash my locks every day; letting it get dirty and do its own thing seems to work better.” She uses a dry shampoo to help absorb some of the oil between washes.

Chin-Length Blonde Highlights (2008)
The visual impact of this hairstyle comes from the bleach blonde highlights that peek out from Sierra’s chin to her shoulders. Rather that streaking blonde highlights throughout her hair (as she does later), Sierra instead opted to keep all of the long strands of her hair and the short layers around her crown brown, while only the medium-length pieces are bleached. There are also some subtle light brown highlights in Sierra’s naturally dark brown hair, particularly around her part. Sierra parts her hair far to her right side with her long bangs swept across her face.

Dark with Caramel Highlights (Spring 2009)
Sierra’s blonde highlights are toned down a bit, while her caramel brown highlights are more prominent.

Light Messy Waves (Summer 2009)
For the summer, Sierra’s hair is lighter, and she started wearing it her signature messy style.

Straight Bangs w/ Red Highlights (Fall/Winter 2009)
Sierra got her bangs cut straight across her face, though the bangs themselves are jagged and layered. She added red streaks throughout her hair, and she began wearing her hair straight.

Dark Messy Waves (Summer 2010)
Sierra once again started wearing her hair in messy waves for Warped Tour in the summer of 2010, though this time her hair is darker and her highlights are less evenly distributed. Sierra does have some highlights throughout her hair, but she has one thick highlight on the left side of her face.

Shaved Right Side (Fall/Winter 2010)
Sierra shaved zig-zags into the right side of her scalp. She has her hair parted far towards the right side and piles it all over to the left.

Blonde and Green Tips (Summer 2011)
Sierra went for an ombre style with blonde tips but then added green between the blonde and brown for a tri-colored look.
Cornrows
Sierra had the right side of her head braided into cornrows during Warped Tour 2010. She wore them at the St. Louis, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland dates.

Pouf
To get a pouf hairstyle like Sierra’s, gather a section of hair about 3 inches wide on the center of your forehead. Hold the hair where you want to pin it down and slide it towards the front of your head to get volume. To hold it in place you will need to pin it down with bobby pins though the hair underneath.

Side Braid
Sierra often wears her hair in a loose side braid, particularly during the summer because it keeps her hair off of her neck. To get this look just put all of your hair over one shoulder, break it into 3 sections, and start braiding it.

Ponytails
Sierra has two main ways that she styles her ponytails: one is to pin her bangs back on the top of her head, and the other is let her bangs and other chunks of hair hang loosely in the front.

Sierra’s blonde ombre hair needs to be added(like how she had it at soundwave and in a bunch of brash videos with no fringe), as well as the black with blue roots

Does anyone know when the three pictures with the aviator sunglasses and gray/white tank top (I think they are all the same day) under the “side braid” section are from? I’d really like to find pictures of that same haircut/color not in a braid to show my hairdresser because I think that’s exactly what I want to do with my hair!
    Love the page,
    XO Lily

Hello! I’m so greatful for this, I wanted my hair cut and coloured for a while and I always try so many different styles but I find it super hard to maintain. So because of this I have a clearer view of what I want which is a combination of (2008) + (2009).
